Interact with professional experts and local citizens to learn about both Chile’s and Argentina’s health care delivery system; approach to the provision of health care to their citizens across the lifespan, including care of the elderly, mental health, and control of vector borne diseases.

Explore and learn about Chilean and Argentinian culture including art, dance, music, literature, architecture, sports, cuisine, language and social mores. Discuss and observe Chilean and Argentinian daily life, communication styles and beliefs with the local people.

Journey Leaders Gertrude (Trudi) McFarland, RN, PhD, FAAN Trudi McFarland, Health Scientist Administrator (Ret), Nursing Research Study Section, NIH, former Nursing Education Consultant, HRSA, USPHS, specializes in psychiatric mental health nursing, research administration, and education. She has received many NIH and USPHS awards; AJN Book Awards; a 2015 university Outstanding Career Achievement Award; has led numerous overseas delegations, including to Cuba in both 2015 and 2016; and has a working knowledge of Spanish.

Cristina (Cris) Sparks-Early, BA, MA Cris Sparks-Early, a returning Nanda co-leader, is an Asst Prof of Spanish and Asst Division Dean, World Languages, Northern Virginia Community College. She has taught Spanish for 25 years, has been awarded NOVA’s Outstanding Faculty Award three times, and provides faculty consultation nationwide. Born and raised in Spain, she has traveled extensively to Spanish speaking countries including Cuba in 2016.
