Goodbyes and Hellos... June was a month of transitions for Rebuilding Together Peninsula. From welcoming our new Executive Director to waving farewell to our NRD Program Manager and AmeriCorps, RTP has been bustling with change and we're excited to have you all join us in this new chapter.

We are excited to announce the newest member of the RTP family, Melissa Lukin! Melissa joined RTP as our Executive Director on June 25th. Melissa is well known and respected locally as a seasoned nonprofit leader with nearly 20 years of experience serving traditionally underserved communities, most recently as the Executive Director of CORA. Melissa has intimate knowledge of San Mateo County and a track record of building strong relationships with local and regional funders, community leaders, and stakeholders.

Melissa has witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact of Rebuilding Together Peninsula through the renovation of CORA’s emergency shelters and this April as a volunteer with National Rebuilding Day. She and her daughter are residents of Belmont. Though Melissa moved into the office a week ago, she's already adapting to the swing of things at RTP. Her friendly "hellos" in the morning, lighthearted conversation about her pet chickens, and conversations with staff speckled with laughter that can be heard around the office fits in perfectly with our quirky RTP crew. Beyond the experience she brings to the table, we're excited to incorporate her valuesdriven leadership into our programs and operations and welcome her into all our office traditions. So glad to have you on the team, Melissa! If you see Melissa around our office or in the community, please help us welcome her into the RTP community!

Jo joined RTP in January 2017 as our National Rebuilding Day & Team Build manager. Her career in the nonprofit world though began 2 years earlier when she served as an AmeriCorps Logistics Coordinator with Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas in 2015. Fascinated by the world of construction and its intersection with service through Rebuilding Together's home repair programs, Jo wasted no time after finishing her AmeriCorps term before joining the Dallas affiliate as a Project Manager. Jo impressed staff, volunteers, and homeowners alike with her positive attitude, welcoming spirit and honest investment in making the world around her a better place. A trustworthy advocate for the neighbors we serve and a wellorganized and detailoriented manager, Jo was not only diligent in learning about RTP and its operations but also leveraging her experience and skill set to refine our programming and amplify our impact in the community. Aside from excelling in the notsosmallfeat of managing 30+ projects at once, Jo was also a patient and supportive teammate, collaborating expertly with the many different vendors, volunteers, and staff members involved in National Rebuilding Day. Though infamous for sneak Nerf gun attacks around the office, Jo's legacy in the RTP office is defined by the countless neighbors whose homes she not only helped transform but whose feelings of hope and community have been restored thanks to her service. Honestly, the list of superlatives you could use to describe Jo, the leader and team player she was, and the impact she left in the Peninsula community is endless. So we'll just end on this thank you for everything, Jo. It's been a pleasure and we're all sad to see you go but wish you only the best for you! You will be missed but we appreciate all the time we've had to work and learn alongside you.

As if saying goodbye to Jo wasn't hard enough, the time has also come to say our farewells to our 201718 class of AmeriCorps. Virginia, Rachael and Michael joined RTP in August of 2017 and have spent the last 10 months volunteering as our Safe at Home Client Services Coordinator, Project Coordinator, and National Rebuilding Day Client Services Coordinator respectively. They are our first class of AmeriCorps to spend their entire term living together in the Farwell House, the house RTP renovated in 2016 to create affordable housing in the area for our AmeriCorps. Whether it was spending an entireday caulking and prepping houses for painting, navigating the crawl spaces of mobile homes, meeting with clients all over the Peninsula to assist with paperwork, or being the glue that held our staff together through support with the phones and organizing our office and warehouse, this trio demonstrated to us all what it means to give

back from the goodness of your heart. Their roles might not always have been glamorous but the group was already to lend a hand to ensure our neighbors received the help they needed. We thank each of you endlessly for every Saturday morning spent out on site helping with repairs and every staff meeting you livened with your propensity for laughter and thoughtful insight on our programming. You are an irreplaceable class of AmeriCorps and your mark on our community will not be forgotten. We'll miss you all dearly but wish you all the best as you continue with your next chapters. As a SummerCorps, Michael will help on site with our repair projects in addition to contributing to several projects in our office including NRD wrapup and updating our database system. We're also excited to follow along as you finish your service project designed to help improve colorectal cancer screening in our community. To Rachael, we send our best as you begin your new job as a law clerk and administrative assistant in San Francisco! Rachael's infectious energy and prowess at not only finishing jobs but completing them with impeccable precision and charisma to match will suit Rachael perfectly in this role and everything she else pursues in life. Whether the future finds you at law school or leading your own nonprofit to success, we know you'll be changing the world in small ways every day. To Virginia, we wish you the best of luck as you embark on your PeaceCorps adventure to Zambia! From day one, it was evident that your ability to communicate and connect with neighbors from all walks of life would mean a lifetime of touching peoples' lives for the better. Through your year of service at RTP and volunteering with Refugee Transitions, there isn't a shadow of doubt in any of our minds that the world is a better place because of you and the individual impact you have in so many lives every day. Morgan Stanley Helps a Neighbor in Need!

Huge thank you to the volunteer crew from Morgan Stanley that did an impressive job painting almost an entire home in just one afternoon! Eager to celebrate the merger of their new team and give everyone a chance to meet and connect, Morgan Stanley reached out to RTP for a team building experience through our repair programs. The group was having such a blast connecting and conversating with one another that they motivated each other to work through the grueling afternoon June sun and painted twice as much house than we expected them to cover in their afternoon with us! Their careful attention to sealing cracks and gaps in the home's exterior with a new coat of paint will protect the wood siding against dry rot and guard the home against pests. Menlo Park High School Gives Back to the Community

Special thank you to this 10thgrade class from Menlo School for partnering with Rebuilding Together Peninsula for their class's service project! They spent two days volunteering with us, helping to paint our office (a portion of which was damaged by a major leak in our ceiling a couple of years ago) and assisting with some demolition projects part of our Accessory Dwelling Unit Initiative in East Palo Alto. Their service projects are part of a cocurricular program that teaches about the cycle of poverty and incorporates servicelearning opportunities. By volunteering with RTP, students are learning about tangible solutions to address inequitable systems in their own community. A house can be one of the biggest financial assets for a family. Repairing and preserving safe, affordable housing for lowincome neighbors creates opportunities for intergenerational wealth transfer via inheritance of a family house that might not have otherwise been possible. Hope you continue to learn and give back to your local community, Menlo School! Thank you for all of your help!
