Region to honor teachers earning National Board Certification Join NEWESD 101 in honoring the latest cohort of regional teachers to earn or renew National Board Certification. Ceremonies are scheduled Tuesday, February 6, 2018, 4 p.m., in the NEWESD 101 Conference Center. The NEWESD 101 region counts more than 100 teachers earning the distinction in 2017, plus another 50 completing work to successfully renew their prior certification. Represented districts include: Central Valley, Cheney, Colton, Colville, Deer Park, East Valley, Freeman, Inchelium, Kettle Falls, Mary Walker, Mead, Medical Lake, Newport, Nine Mile Falls, Pullman, Reardan-Edwall, Ritzville, Rosalia, Spokane, West Valley and Wilbur. National certification is one of the most elite achievements in the teaching profession, typically requiring a year of work to pass four rigorous components that include: 1) a written assessment of content knowledge; 2) reflection on student work samples; 3) video and analysis of teaching practice; and 4) documented impact and accomplishments as a teaching professional. Jeff Halstead, a teacher at Ferris High School in Spokane and one of the first regional teachers to earn national certification, will serve as keynote speaker.
