LIVELIHOODS & SOCIAL COHESION
Since the start of 2017, Livelihoods Partners assisted 16,934 refugees and host community members with short-term and/or longterm employment opportunities and 64,101 youth and adults in increasing their employability through job training, internships, job placement and language courses. In addition, 19,398 host community members and refugees have participated in community based activities to promote social cohesion. Highlights across the region in July include: In Jordan, the mechanism that was used to allocate work permits and manage the leave system in Za'atari camp was presented and once the technicalities are solved, the new Za'atari Office for Employment (ZOE) and the leave mechanism at the main gate will be tested and fully functional. Private sector representatives have been vising both camps in Jordan to locate eligible individuals for employment opportunities in host communities, including Carrefour in Za'atari, Pine Tree garment factory in Azraq. Furthermore, job fairs are to be offered at both camps on a continuous basis. In addition, the Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET) in Lebanon organized the first SME forum on 11th of July , which about 300 representatives from the government, the private sector and development partners attended. Its objective was to discuss possible ways to develop more strategic and sustainable partnerships with the business community.
