Regional Monthly Dashboard July 2017 PROTECTION The number of Syrian refugees in the region stood at 5.16 million at the end of July 2017. There are now almost 3 million Syrian refugees registered refugees in Turkey, over 1 million in Lebanon, some 660,000 in Jordan, almost 245,000 in Iraq and above 120,000 in Egypt, indicating the generosity of host countries across the region. Highlights across the region in July include: In Iraq, the Outreach Volunteers (OV) programme led to improved community engagement through new initiatives on community capacity building, mobilization, awareness raising, and information dissemination. Coordination continues with camp management to support the development of an effective and user friendly community feedback mechanism. In Lebanon, in response to fires in the Bekaa which destroyed tents in informal settlements, 3RP Partners established safe spaces and recreational activities for children, as well as providing case management services to children in need. Gender-based Violence (GBV) services were provided to women and adolescent girls, including distribution of dignity kits. In Egypt, multi-sectoral case management services assisted 931 children, adolescents and youth during July. An increase in the number of of newly registered Syrian unaccompanied children (UAC) in Egypt has been observed since January 2017 (105 UAC in total), with the highest number of 24 UAC recorded May and 19 UAC newly registered during July.
