Regional Monthly Dashboard May 2017 EDUCATION As at the end of May, some 900,600 Syrian children across the region are enrolled in formal education in schools located in camps and host communities. Additionally, around 51,200 Syrian children are enrolled in informal education. In Turkey, organization for the open high school examination for Syrian refugees has commenced. Those who pass the examination will be awarded an internationally accepted certification that will allow them to advance to higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad. So far up to 6,000 Syrian students have registered for the exam. For the academic year 2016-2017 Turkey implemented the largest DAFI scholarship program in the world with a total of 814 refugee youth awarded full scholarships. Over 18,600 Syrian volunteer teachers successfully passed their trainning and are now qualified to teach Syrian children in temporary education centers. In Lebanon, the nationwide back to school (BTS) campaign has begun in order to plan for activities to be implemented in the preparation for the upcoming school year. While in Jordan preparations are ongoing for the start of summer school to accommodate the 3,593 refugee children who enrolled late in the previous academic year.
