LIVELIHOODS & SOCIAL COHESION

Since the start of 2017, Livelihoods Partners assisted 15,495 refugees and host community members with short-term and/or long-term employment opportunities and 36,247 youth and adults in increasing their employability through job training, internships, job placement and language courses. In addition, 18,747 host community members and the refugees have participated in community based activities to promote social cohesion. “A Business and Employment Forum” took place in Gaziantep, Turkey in May 2017, bringing together more than 700 participants including Syrians, host community members, entrepreneurs and businesses (including 35 local, national and international companies), NGOs, government and social enterprises, for increased engagement of the private sector in Syria crisis response in terms of livelihoods generation and job creation. The discussions throughout the two-day Forum underlined the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding job opportunities and strengthening livelihoods options through a comprehensive programme composed of different components, such as The Business Marketplace, Sessions for Jobseekers, Sessions for Employers and Entrepreneurs, and General Sessions.
