WHEREAS, the institutions now known as Regis University and Regis Jesuit High School were founded on November 5, 1877 in Las Vegas, New Mexico and shortly thereafter relocated to Denver at the behest of the Most Rev. Joseph Machebeuf; and WHEREAS, Regis University and Regis Jesuit High School began as a preparatory school for boys and grew into a university serving men and women of all faiths in four locations on the Front Range, as well as the now separate high school, which provides a superior secondary education in Aurora; and WHEREAS, Regis University incorporated selected academic programs at Loretto Heights College, which was closing, to enrich and expand the university into the comprehensive higher education institution it now is; and WHEREAS, Regis University delivers a high-quality, liberal arts education, is an innovative pioneer in online adult learning, and provides more than 100 degree programs in fields ranging from business, education, and computer science, to the liberal arts, the humanities, and health care; and WHEREAS, Regis Jesuit High School is the only high school in the state and only Jesuit school in the country to offer an innovative single-gender instructional model for both young men and women; and WHEREAS, Regis University is one of only 28 colleges and universities in the United States grounded in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition, and the only one in the Western Rocky Mountains; and WHEREAS, Regis Jesuit High School has grown to be the largest private, and largest Catholic high school in Colorado, serving a diverse body of students coming from all along the Front Range; and WHEREAS, Regis University and Regis Jesuit High School, inspired by St. Ignatius Loyola, educate men and women to make a positive impact in a rapidly-changing global society by emphasizing academic excellence, service, and developing the whole person, as prescribed by the principles of the Society of Jesus; and WHEREAS, Regis University and Regis Jesuit High School students, faculty, staff, and alumni have made significant contributions to the betterment of society through generous service, locally and around the world, including through Jesuit Worldwide Learning, which awards Regis University diplomas to refugees enrolled in programs across the globe; Therefore, I, John W. Hickenlooper, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim, November 5, 2017, as
