ANNEX Participants are invited to participate in two workshops. Each workshop will last 45 minutes. 1. Context, maximizing impact and strategic knowledge transfer through TRQN assignments. The workshop will be moderated by Dr Jennifer Leith and Dr Althea Rivas, evaluators of the TRQN lll project. They will situate the discussion on impact from the perspective of context, and maximizing impact and choices of measurement methods with context in mind. How do you know when and how TRQN has achieved results and are they lasting? The workshop will also address the issues of sustainability of impact in knowledge transfer for development, from a strategic viewpoint and lead discussion on the challenges of continuity of knowledge transfer for development, through the TRQN project. 2. Innovative approaches to knowledge transfer; towards a greater involvement of the private sector. This workshop will be provided by Professor Gerd Junne of The Network University (TNU). TNU facilitates innovative learning and capacity building, specializing in creating etools for education and networking in the field of development. TNU is closely involved in different diaspora initiatives that aim at a greater involvement of the private sector: the international DiasporaLink network on Transnational Diaspora Entrepreneurship; the African Diaspora Policy Centre’s work on Migration and Development, including policies to attract diaspora investment; and (together with MD Consultancy) an online entrepreneurship programme, in which successful migrants in the Netherlands engage in knowledge transfer to starting entrepreneurs in the country of origin. Opportunities and challenges of such initiatives will be discussed with the participants of the workshop.

3. Setting the right conditions for transfer of knowledge in conflict and post conflict states This workshop will be moderated by Frantz Celestin, IOM programme Manager MIDA Somalia. MIDA stands for Migration for Development in Africa. In Somalia the programme involves various diaspora engagement initiatives that target Puntland, Somaliland and South Central Somalia. Mr Celestin will discuss with the audience the specific opportunities and challenges, working with diaspora on reconstruction and development in a volatile environment.

4. Diaspora policies in countries of origin; creating the right conditions for brain circulation
