reINVENT retirement OLLI SUMMER TERM Fruitcake and Kites: Grandparents and Grandkids Creating Memories Truman Capote, A Christmas Memory Truman Capote’s engaging novella is about his favorite Christmas memory from his childhood, an experience that he shared with an elderly eccentric cousin when he was seven years old. By participating in Fruitcake and Kites, grandparents and their grandchildren can create their own special memories. Participants will discuss the Capote story, view and discuss the movie based on the story, write their own favorite Christmas memories (to be collected and printed in a booklet), and learn an art form called Zentangle to make unique Christmas ornaments. Children that participate must be at least eight years of age. June 5-26 | Mondays, 10 a.m.-Noon | 4 weeks Instructors: Nancy Grisham Anderson, Cliff Browning, Sharon Wheelahan, Susie Smith, Lisa Smith A DIY Christmas In this class, we will make Christmas ornaments (at least 10) using a variety of materials. A little hot glue, glitter, and paint and BOOM—you have created fantastic, easy-to-make heirlooms for your family. Perhaps, you’ll want to make a little special keepsake for your grandchildren. Fun and fellowship are guaranteed!!! June 5-26 | Mondays, 1:30-3 p.m. | 4 weeks Instructor: Lynda Smitherman Both summer courses will meet at Founders Station in Pike Road. The registration fee is $25 for OLLI members for summer term. No registration fee charged for grandchildren of OLLI members attending with a grandparent.
