Supporting our European activities from our hubs in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands

Petrofac is a leading international provider of integrated services with almost four decades of experience. We have extensive track record in the delivery of lump-sum engineering and construction projects on and offshore. So we know what it takes to deliver exceptional safety and operational performance, wherever the location and whatever the logistical challenges or constraints. We are adept at integrating our capabilies and working alongside vendors, partners and the wider supply chain to deliver a turnkey approach on behalf of our clients.

We have been supporting the renewables sector since 2008 most recently delivering the Galloper HVAC substation for Galloper Wind Farm Ltd and BorWin3 HVDC for TenneT. Across our renewables projects we integrate our engineering, project management and procurement capabilities to provide complete project delivery assurance. Our involvement in supporting assets can extend beyond asset commissioning. Our range of tailored services can be delivered standalone or integrated across our operations, maintenance and training offerings to support effective operations which are underpinned by skilled and competent personnel.

OUR APPROACH: > A relentless approach to maintaining high HSSE standards > Robust planning and project controls > An engaged, competent, and experienced team > A transparent approach that eliminates rework and adds value

From project concept to development

ENGINEERING Our engineering services provide clients with support from the outset of a project. Our specialist engineering consultancy teams can provide concept and feasibility studies and our service delivery extends all the way through to project execution and commissioning. Petrofac’s track record, spanning more than 200 EPC/ EPCm/EPCI projects globally, enables us to leverage our delivery know-how to create engineering solutions which deliver constructible and inherently safe designs.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT We have expertise in the design and engineering of offshore structures (fixed and floating) as well as specialist capability for subsea cables, including large HVDC interconnectors as well as smaller wind farm export cables. Scale and complexity of projects do not constrain us since we have the depth and breadth of resources to scale our delivery to suit projects of any size.

We deliver around 10 million man-hours of engineering every year

Our project management services span concept stage to execution delivery and start up. Our personnel deliver in accordance with Petrofac’s established project management procedures and project execution philosophies. Our estimating, planning and project control teams enable us to deliver controlled and consistent project outcomes. Integrated systems provide live status and can be aligned to our clients’ systems where needed. And our HSSE function and Group-wide approach to safety ensure we remain safe in all we do.

PROCUREMENT

CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION

We have a network of over 400 procurement specialists and a collective spend of around US$2-3 billion annually. This means we have the knowledge required to recommend and implement the right solution for each project at the most competitive rate. Our procedures and controls ensure expenditure is optimised through negotiation skills, vendor relationships, market knowledge, service contracts and our sourcing experience.

As a result of the successful execution of several hundred international offshore and onshore E&P, EPC, EPCm and EPCI projects, we have exceptional insights into developing assets.

Our annual procurement spend is circa US$2-3 billion

This EPC-led approach results in construction-driven engineering and procurement schedules. When combined with our extensive contractor management capability it means we can accelerate project schedules, manage risks and ensure delivery. And, thanks to our experience in delivering in highly-regulated regions, we can help our clients negotiate the regulatory environment too. Preparation for the critical completions phase of a project begins as early as possible allowing us to identify potential challenges early on and manage them effectively.

This ensures as seamless a path as possible throughout the EPCI process. Leveraging the skills of our expert completions team, we ensure this influence is carried through engineering, procurement, and construction. This integrated delivery approach provides a strong basis from which to commission and handover projects.

Our current renewables portfolio is predominantly in support of the European offshore wind market. We are an established provider in the German and UK offshore sectors supporting both fixed and floating assets, and are fully conversant with the sector’s challenges, and our clients’ aims.

LIFE CYCLE ASSET SUPPORT Another key aspect of Petrofac’s service provision is to extend our support beyond the project phase into operations. As an established market leader in the provision of asset support services such as Duty Holder and Operations and Maintenance services in the UKCS, we are well placed to provide a range of asset support solutions.

GALLOPER OFFSHORE WIND FARM

Client: TenneT Scope: EPCI Date: 2012 – ongoing Location: German North Sea

Client: Galloper Wind Farm Ltd (an SSE Renewables/RWE Innogy JV) Scope: EPCI Date: 2016 – 2018 Location: UK

BorWin3 is a HVDC link under construction to transmit offshore wind power to the power grid of the German mainland. Currently under installation 130 km off the German coast, in water depths of 40 metres, it is scheduled to go online in 2019. When operational, it will house a 900 megawatt (MW) Siemens HVDC station. When completed it will be one of the world’s heaviest and largest HVDC platforms, with the topside standing at six storeys and weighing around 18,000 metric tonnes (MT). Petrofac, in consortium with Siemens, has full responsibility for the engineering, procurement, construction, and offshore installation of the platform.

Operations services: Market-defining asset solutions that reduce operating expenditure and improve efficiency, from the supply of experienced, competent people, through to full responsibility for asset management, performance, integrity, and operations.

Training and competence: Industry leading training courses* and crisis management consultancy, including major emergency management, through to the development of bespoke training programmes and solutions to manage workforce competency.

Petrofac and GE were awarded a contract to engineer, procure, construct and install a HVAC offshore substation platform (OSP) to facilitate wind farm grid connection in the UKCS area. Galloper consists of 56 offshore turbines. The substation provides a transmission capacity of approximately 340 MW. Petrofac has designed, procured, constructed, and installed Galloper’s jacket and topside, which are located at a water depth of 30 metres and weigh 1,743 metric tonnes (MT) and 2,200 tonnes respectively. Two of the major components – the jacket and deck for the OSP – were completed at the Heerema fabrication yard in Hartlepool. Installation was successfully completed in May 2017. As a normally unmanned installation, the platform and all equipment housed on it were designed to prioritise availability, reliability, low maintenance and ease of service and repair.
