Research Project Assistant

Currently, we are seeking a knowledgeable professional, to join our Victoria Research team, with experience in the health field of pharmaceutical sciences and medicine. This temporary role will assist with the facilitation of our health based research study. This position would be scheduled for an eight month work term required for this study, beginning in May through to December, 2016. As the study examines the impact of the Provincial Drug Information System (PharmaNet) integration with the hospital electronic health records for the best possible medication history (BPMH) admission, this role will work with Malatest research professionals to evaluate and review the MedRec process at 3 distinct sites within Island Health (Victoria General Hospital, West Coast General Hospital, and Tofino General Hospital) Region.

Pharmaceutical Research - Project Assistant (8 month Term) Travel required to: Victoria, Port Alberni and Tofino, hospitals as required. Hours may vary based on contract project requirements; Flexibility to work other hours, as necessary;

Compensation:

Hourly rate of $17.00 to $20.00 (based on skills, knowledge, and experience)

Overview: Proactively Contributes towards and assists with business development activities such as preparing proposals, meeting with potential clients to take notes, developing business promotional materials and attending professional networking forums, events and contributing to other local business initiatives. Duties will include, but are not limited to: 

Assisting with survey administration;



Data collection and cleaning/coding tasks;



Assisting with survey projects and fieldwork;



Proofing reports / presentation preparation;



Assisting with events, meetings, project training and focus groups;



Communicating with the project team on ongoing research project details;



Computer proficiency for MS Word, Excel and other programs, to create tables/charts;



Other project assistant that contribute to either and/or research/ office admin tasks;

Job Description:         

Providing subject matter expertise regarding pharmaceutical terms for the research team Analyzing and evaluating pharmaceutical and clinical administration, best practices, policies, and procedures, as outlined for evaluation throughout the duration of the project study Performing medical and pharmaceutical background research, environmental scans and literature reviews Conducting in-person interviews and data collection activities from the 3 distinct hospital site facilities Performing Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Medical Record reviews and reconciliations Conducting chart audits for patient(s) medication histories/plans, (electronic and paper copy) and BPMHs Undertaking quality control and manipulating collected administrative data of surveys administered Developing communications and collaboratively writing detailed reports based on the data collected Various other support, administrative coordination of tasks associated with the completion of the research project deliverables; which, may include assisting with capturing database information in MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word and possibly SPSS and/or NVivo, and assisting with conducting statistical analysis to support the creation of final reports.

Qualifications:             

Strong knowledge and familiarity of BPMH and pharmaceutical terminology, processes, and best practices Effective written and verbal communication skills Strong interviewing skills and the ability to conduct onsite hospital observations and data collection activities Ability to conduct patient medication history reviews and chart audits (electronic and paper copy) Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively, individually or in a team work environment Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and the ability to perform reconciliations, as required Experience working in a research environment or undertaking research tasks is considered an asset Knowledge of, and experience using, statistical analysis techniques is considered an asset Experience using data management software in MS Access and MS Excel and additional statistical software with programs such as SPSS and NVivo, is considered an asset A valid driver's license as well as a personal vehicle and/or the ability to rent a vehicle, for travel from Victoria to Port Alberni and Tofino, is preferred (travel expenses out of Victoria will be reimbursed) Knowledge of PharmaNet software and the associated services, is preferred Experience conducting Time and Motion studies, is preferred As a condition of employment on many of our research project contracts, staff members are required to adhere to Malatest privacy, security, confidentiality and quality standards, be legally entitled to work in Canada and be able to obtain security clearances with Public Works and Government Services Canada.
