The Center for Policy Research: The Centre for Policy Research (CPR) in Tokyo was established in 2014 to generate policy research and inform major UN debates in the areas of security, development and humanitarian affairs. CPR is a small think-tank, with eight core staff, a few select fellows, and a broad network of partner policy analysts and researchers. CPR’s policy research agenda focuses in particular on the implications for the UN of the changing nature of conflict and violence as well as on making the UN fit for purpose to allow it to better contribute to the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Senior Policy Advisor and reporting to the Director of UNU-CPR, the Research Fellow will be supporting UNU-CPR’s programme on global development. As Research Fellow, responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following tasks:     

Conduct independent research and drafting on select CPR research projects, including in the form of policy briefs, research papers, meeting summaries, and conference reports; Provide research assistance to senior UNU-CPR personnel as required, including but not limited to conducting library and online research; collecting and organizing data on relevant issues; carrying out literature reviews; and providing drafting and editorial support; Provide substantive and administrative support for the organization of conferences, meetings and seminars Provide administrative support to the UNU-CPR team; Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience:      

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public policy, political science, law, international affairs, or a related field; At least 3 (three) years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, political affairs, conflict resolution, economic development; or law. A strong international research background and publications in areas related to peace, security, global governance, and/or public policy; Excellent drafting and communication skills; Knowledge of the UN and of its functions and activities is desirable; Fluency in spoken and written English.

Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Duration of Contract: The successful candidate shall work under a Personnel Services Agreement (PSA) for a fixed period of 1 year, with the possibility of renewal. The combined duration of appointments under PSA shall not exceed six (6) years. The successful candidate will not hold international civil servant status nor be a “staff member” as defined in the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations.
