Curriculum STANDARDS AND YOU IN MUSEUM PROGRAMS

The Putnam Education department’s approach to curricula is informed by national, Iowa and Illinois state standards. We strive to assist and support our community teachers, parents and school administration with the task of helping students meet and/or exceed curriculum standards and benchmarks. For many educators and parents it is a daunting task to complete today’s educational requirements, all while trying to present material in a manner that will resonate with students and their various learning styles. Partner with the Putnam to access tools to enhance the learning of your students. As an area leader in non-formal education the Putnam In Museum Programs encourage hands-on experiences, utilization of technology, studentcentered learning and an overall dynamic experience! The time of an educator is precious. Therefore we have listed the state standards for our In Museum and Outreach Programs below the program description.

HUMPBACK WHALES!

Narrated by two-time Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor, Humpback Whales is an extraordinary journey into the mysterious world of one of nature’s most awe-inspiring marine mammals. Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii and the remote islands of Tonga, this ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how these whales communicate, sing, feed, play and take care of their young. Captured for the first time with IMAX® 3D cameras, and found in every ocean on earth, humpbacks were nearly driven to extinction 50 years ago, but today are making a slow but remarkable recovery. Join a team of researchers as they unlock the secrets of the humpback and find out why humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales, why they sing their haunting songs, and why these intelligent 55-foot, 50-ton animals migrate up to 10,000 miles round-trip every year. A MacGillivray Freeman film presented by Pacific Life, Humpback Whales is directed by Greg MacGillivray (The Living Sea,Dolphins, Everest) and produced by Shaun MacGillivray (To The Arctic, Grand Canyon Adventure). Filmed with 15perf / 65mm IMAX® cameras, Humpback Whales is written and edited by Stephen Judson (Everest, To The Arctic) with a musical score by Steve Wood (Journey to the South Pacific, To The Arctic). A One World One Ocean production.

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES

The airplane has changed our world, but do we really understand exactly how much? LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES reminds us how profoundly this amazing invention has changed the way we do just about everything. It also renews our appreciation for the airplane and stunningly conveys the wonder and grandeur of flying. Not that long ago, traveling between continents was a migration. Now, on any given day, 100,000 flights transport people and products between any two points on Earth in a matter of hours. Indeed, the airplane may be the closest thing we have to a time machine. Filmed in 18 countries across all 7 continents, the film explores the countless ways the airplane affects our lives (even when we don’t fly). With a fascinating take on history, breathtaking visuals, soaring music, and a truly unique perspective, LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES shows the airplane in a fresh light as it takes audiences on a wondrous trip around the globe. LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES was produced and directed by Brian J. Terwilliger (One Six Right), is narrated by Harrison Ford, and features an original score by Academy Award® winning composer James Horner (Avatar, Titanic).
