Good Design is in the details. Retail is the most critical detail you can invest in. Welcome to ID Solutions. Where Design is our passion. Design is everything. We live, breathe, dream design. Retail Design, Branding, Conceptual Thematic Challenges, Hands-on Single Store Nuts & Bolts stuff, Institutional Nation Wide Roll Outs. Investing in Outstanding Design is not an option anymore. It’s a necessity. It’s an investment, just like any marketing investment. It’s probably the most critical marketing investment you can make. The consumer is only seconds away from the moment of making a decision. To touch or not to touch. To enter or not to enter. To buy or not to buy. Design in Retail. Retail is Design. Like any investment, good well researched design, with a sound retail and brand strategy delivers outstanding ROI. It becomes even more important in a difficult economic times, as you have customers looking for that “feel good” experience.

There’s no therapy like retail therapy. Today we live in a world that thinks small, dreams big. I Phone. E Stores. Pocket Books. Mega Malls. Today is the age of the Consumer. A new age, a new vocabulary. Shopping is not Shopping. Shopping is an experience. A world class experience an average consumer expects at a neighbourhood mall. Where the consumer feels privileged, rewarded for paying “precious dollar” (even if it’s an economy store they are shopping at) get that international brand feeling. Today’s savvy consumers are buying an image, a perception that strengthens their desirability for brands. The challenge of retail design is to ensure Consumers like to shop. They should feel comfortable, happy & excited about walking in, walking around, exploring, navigating touch points, gravitating to the higher value areas…which makes retail design as much of a science as an art. This demands a collection of skills - space planning

- materials selection

- creativity

- construction Knowledge

- graphics

- drafting

- detailing

- 3d Modeling

Sumo

“With your mind as high as Mt Fuji you can see all things clearly”

Miyamoto Musashi

Helensvale Shopping Town, Queensland David Tan of Sumo provided us with a fabulous open corner site in the new Westfield Helensvale. Staring at the empty space, ideas of Japan came to mind – the land of the rising sun – Mount Fuji – Deep reds and timber, natural finishes…. And from that empty space, this is what emerged, in 2 months. Inspired by the legendary Japanese poet Miyamoto Musashi, we created an ambience uniquely iconic in character. Sumo characters which come to life in the bright lights. The streaked red panels form the rising sun at the peak of Mount Fuji and rugged textured walls add to the aura & the experience. Making Sumo look inviting, classy and appetising. And larger than life.

Sublime “In eternity there is indeed something true & sublime…”

Henry David Thoreau

Westfield Chermside, Queensland

With a name like Sublime, what do you expect? It wasn’t tough to differentiate it from the rest of the crop. But doing something on paper is one thing. Doing it in practice with the subtle finer touches, is what the ID team revels in. Run your eye over the ceiling and you will see the recessed ceiling features. Let your eye roam free with a pleasant déjà vu appeal, thanks to the lime LEDS. Clean black & white verticals create that feeling of timeless space. Now complete the picture with striking finishes. And mood photography. Now we’re talking cutting edge fashion - for the body & hair. A brand that’s Sublime not just in name – but also in spirit.

CBD

Northlakes Shopping Centre, Queensland What happens when one of Australia’s premium coffee distributors decides to venture into retail? Well, they call ID. Get talking to GS. The immediate need is for a kiosk and retail outlets named CBD “Coffee by Di Bella “. Clearly, differentiating Di Bella was the first challenge on our minds. It had to physically emerge from our design on to the customer experience. Here’s what we did. We focused on the coffee & made the bean display the core customer experience. So while you sip a coffee & enjoy a light meal, you can also buy beans by the kilo! Even purchase a coffee machine here! Certainly the ambience had to take our consumer on this coffee golden journey. The design solution? Golden ceiling features with routed beans. Latte coloured smart stones and coffee coloured timbers make the Di Bella experience warm, inviting and premium.

Bluewater Surf

“You’re not a wave, you’re a part of the ocean. “ Mitch Albom

Westfield Chermside, Queensland When a major surfing brand poses a challenge, you know you are in the deep end. And inspiration has to be fast, impactful & convincing. When we came up with the concept for this crowd grabbing surf shop. We call it Blue Ocean Design Thinking – for the ultimate brand: Blue Water Surf Shop. Our premise was based on one insight: Capture the thrill of the deep blue ocean. In a store. The Blue Water Surf Shop is totally designed around the concept of a wave. Imagine a huge towering wave hitting your store! The shop front greets you with a 5 metre tall wave about to crash into you. Escape that? No way! Now you are inside the water – by walking on small pebbles in resin. Let this shop floor “beach quartz carpet” mesmerise you. Look up & you can see mind blowing graphics just as they would appear from the base of the ocean. Hard core stuff, for hard core water addicts.

Sante

“I think the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humour in it” Frank Clark

Southbank, Queensland There are very few one word briefs you get in this business. You get architecture, material, design complexities as mind buttons. Not with Sante Sandwiches! There was only one word we had to capture. One mood button to press. Fun. Okay, make that two. Fun & Excitement. Now, make that three. Fun, Excitement, Appetite. We wanted Sante to be anything but a sandwich bar. We wanted to turn everything on its head. And we did – with immense success. The food is prepared at the rear and slid down chutes for customers to self serve. There are bright colours all around. And “fun health” characters created from fruits & vegetables. Just the sort of stuff that kids & parents seem to universally love.

Viet D’Lites

Good food is always by design…

Southbank, Queensland Inspired by the lush green jungles of Vietnam, the restaurant kind of grows on you as you take your seat. There are images of bamboo and buddahs which the eye may not notice, but your inner consciousness does. There are stone tops and green leatherete stools specially created for diners to this one of a kind place. We kept it as a large open banquet style eating place in confirmation with the styling & culture dictates of Asia. All of which seems to have worked wonders as diners have been more than delighted with Viet Delights.

This soulful spa is created for the seeker of inner beauty.

Presto Pizza & Pasta

Southbank, Queensland Hey, guess what, there’s a new pizza and pasta bar in Southbank Brisbane. So what’s new? For one, it’s high quality pizza prepared and cooked on site. And the pasta menu lets you select your pasta (the style, sauce & meat). The client had all the ingredients. We just had to put them together & highlight them with a range of bold bright colours and lots of light to add more cheer to good yummy food. And not to miss, the funny Presto guy running with the pizza.

TMH

Give me my 2 favourite colours: brown & white…..

Helensvale Shopping Centre, Queensland Hair Dressing is a complex art. Made simple by the people who symbolize perfection. TMH. As a company and as people, they have a core philosophy and obsession with simplicity. And so does our design. Clean simple finishes. Ceiling features and shiny graphics. Simple and cost effective construction.  You will also find that touch of retro in ID’s design for tmh: the black & white colour theme with a bit of dream lighting. It takes you b

Pause Cafe

Stop the world and let me down….

Ascot, Queensland Set in the busy racecourse road precinct of Ascot, we took its idyllic location as our design inspiration. And the name had to reflect in the ambience too – it was meant to be a cafe where people can pause and relax from the busy hustle and bustle. Pause makes you want to let the world go by & while you enjoy a great coffee and a lite-bite. Everything about Pause is unhurried, unobtrusive, understated: the simple finishes combine a clean relaxing pallete of neutal greys whites, steels and blues.

Asian Delight

Westfield Carindale, Queensland This is hard core sea food the Chinese way. As original as it gets. Naturally, the design inspiration had to as authentic as the food.  The entire concept revolves around the the Chinese lucky dragon holding the golden ball. The graphic panels have ingots inspired by ceiling carvings from the forbidden city. It’s a culinary voyage, set in an Oriental dream fantasy. Will it be easy to fit out was the only question our client had? In the end, we made it look very easy. In true ID style! Even the client could not believe the dream run we had with this project.

Diamonds International

Westfield Chermside, Queensland When Charles Bentley of Diamonds International called Gordon, we were curious. And excited to say the least. What was Brisbane’s home to the white diamond up to now? Soon we had the answer. Conceptualise their brand for the high fashion area of Westfield Chermside. We had to keep in mind all that Diamonds International symoblised. Great service. Greater trust. Transparency & sparkle. We used clever lighting to make each piece sparkle. We used soft floor finishes for a relaxing feel to encourage customers to come in and browse. This became the talk of town – and the starting point of an on-going relationship. Our follow on project was to uprgade the store on the corner of Adelaide andEdward street. Here, the complexion changed dramatically! How do you envisage a site as a desitination – when it’s not on the ground floor? But rather on the first floor of office space? We designed a true destination based retail operation where the customer arrives due to great quality product and fantastic service. When you walk in, the first thing to catch the eye are a host of seating areas to allow customers to relax and make a well informed decision. 2 stores, one grand name, different locations…different designs. Putting the spotlight on the product & customer experience.

Events

:Fashions fade, style is eternal” Yves Saint Laurent

Carindale, Queensland When ID met up with Events, one thing was crystal clear. Event was about Elegance. Understated Elegance. And for us that became the fashion statement to highlight. We took care not to go overboard but confined the design touches to a simple & elegant finish. A natural look of timber contrasted with high polish 2 packs. Black & white neutral tones contrasted against the colours of the garments. It’s a look that grows on you, but never overwhelms you. Befitting the store philosophy & the customer personality.

Leading Edge Jewellers

Minimise to Maximise

Townsville, Queensland Everyone talks minimalist, but how do you do it? When Leading Edge Jewellers briefed ID on their new store, only one phrase came to mind: Heart of gold. Listening to the client, reviewing the merchandise & exploring this over crowded landscape of jeweler-retailers, we came up with a basic truth. Keep it simple, keep it clean. Make the jewels the star of the show. And reinforce the emotional connect with the heart of gold. We designed the joinery in a streamlined thematic pattern, for cost effective manufacture off site. We even kept the lighting natural. By minimising the inventory on display, we ensured faster turnover, without huge capital being tied up in stocks. A classic case of good intelligent design translating into good business for the client.

Cifton Beach

Sea, Sun & Sand….what more can one ask for?

Clifton Beach, Queensland

This one was a breeze. A peach of a pharmacy. On the beach. A free hand to make it look less medicinal, more visually emotional. The front façade sets the tone for the insides: warm tropical colours mixed with the aquas and green of the ocean. We created 4 metre tall backlit lifestlye shots mixed with images of marine culture to make this one of the most visible pharmacies in the area.

Showcase Jewellers

Everything that sparkles is not a Diamond… And everything that shines is not Gold. But at ID, the jewellery projects keep coming…and coming….keeping us on the edge, forcing us to outshine ourselves.

, Queensland We designed the concept store for one of Australia’s primary jewellery brands. The gold and blacks are synonymous today with the corporate colours of Showcase. Of course, it helps to add some mystique to this gold barcode designing. By adding double height illuminated windows to create room for a lot of stock in a small space. And notice these small illuminated recesses to showcase individual collections? Off set by giant plasma screens in the front for animated offers.

Oscar Oscar

“I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free” Michelangelo

Westfiled Chermside, Queensland When we started off on a hair saloon called Oscar Oscar, it was the first of its kind. Ahead of its time. Futuristic in offering, design, concept – that’s what the client & ID team aspired Oscar Oscar to be. Inspired by the Hollywood Hall of Fame, it had to be a magnum opus. The last word in saloon comfort -and saloon opulence. We started with high quality finishes and comfortable ambient lighting to set it apart. We added macasser veneers ceiling features and images of the award winning hair styles. So when you walk in, you get that big aura, yet warm inviting atmosphere. You know it’s a great place to relax and get great service. Today, Oscar Oscar is one of Australia’s most awarded and recognised hair saloons.

Matthews Jewellers

, Queensland Take high end merchandise. Combine with natural stone and deep timber veneers. Contrast with stainless steels and LED feature lighting . Place in large L shaped timber bulkheads wrap arounds. And “wall to ceiling” glass showcases to feature the stock. Stock that glitters & shines. Thanks to high use of close proximity LED state of the art lighting. Making the entire experience a kind of choreographed show. At Matthews, each jewel is the star of the show.

Bakers Club

, Queensland Conceptualise a bakery club. Not a bakery. But a bakery club with a national roll out. We made it appetising and larger than life. We used bold colours and lifestye images. We added warm rich colours: golds, browns & yellows, to represent fresh baked bread The menu was kept simple for easy readability. ID’s trademark designer touches can be seen all around: well lit store with the product as the hero - and natural finishes. Bakery Club recreates the magic of times gone by, a fairty tale romance of fresh baked goodies, in a world where time stands still, and you half expect an elf to jump across the counter and say hi, which pie is going to make your day?

Fone Zone Design must give wings to mankind’s quest for success…..

, Queensland One of Australia’s largest mobile phone retailers, Gordon’s personal association with David Mcmahon and Maxine Horne of Fone Zone goes back a long way. Both he and the company’s owners anticipated the mobile boom, much ahead of other players in this highly competitive arena. They also guessed that the consumer was going to be lost in the big bad world of mobiles and if a store had to succeed big time, trend spotting & trend setting was the name of the game. These discussions became a starting point for a showcasing revolution in mobile phone retail design. When you walk into Fone Zone, you walk into a Wow Zone. It’s fun, not intimidating. It’s trendy, but business like also. It’s cool, yet not over the top expensive. And it’s all about you, you & you. Gordon’s ID Fone Zone design acknowledges the mobile buyer’s classic dilemma. And resolves it – with one master stroke of genius. Hi-tech jazzy panels segregate phones by what they do. Music. Video. Business. Lifestyle. Simply Call & Talk. Fone Zone is as much about friendly human interaction as it’s about friendly technology you can use. Areas of the store are allocated for customers to sit and talk with sales staff and work though a signup process. Dynamic LCD screens showcase offers instantly & can be changed as many times as the market demands it. In fact, everything has emerged & evolved in this long standing partnership between ID & Fone Zone. The key learnings and ground truths being: Experiential Zone: Customers want to sit down, show off, take their friends advice, compare models, in fact, buying a phone is like buying a fashion accessory, so our job is to facilitate that. Dynamic Zone: Everything changes in a second in terms of technology, bundled offers, hence the store has to be built keeping that constant change factor in mind. The display on LCD Screens adds to the customer experience of getting the best. Future Zone: Fit outs are flexible so one year down the line all the products will be new, yet the freedom to touch & feel the product will always be with the customers.
