A Word from Our Administrator Dear Richmond Families, Recognitions I would like to begin by thanking Dr. Xuan Thy Tran, mother of Charlie, Sam, and Max Schulenburg, for accepting the role as Richmond School’s Medical Advisor. The WI Department of Public Instruction requires schools to secure consultive services of a local physician. The medical advisor collaborates with school personnel in the formulation of emergency medical response protocols and health related issues confronted by schools. I would also like to thank Rae Ellen Eberle and our Student Council for the wonderful and well-organized Community Lunch & Learn on March 17th. Personalized Learning This year, to achieve our vision of lifelong learners, one of our strategies is to create a learning culture that supports the needs of the 21st Century Learner. Our goal is to continue to expand Personalized Learning opportunities for our students. You may have noticed some new furniture in the 3rd grade classrooms. Students benefit from flexible learning spaces that allow them to learn in a place and position that are most comfortable for them. This is part of our initiative to include some of the components of personalized learning in a few of our classrooms. In 3rd grade, students are taking ownership for their learning in math by analyzing their pretest data, setting their own goals, determining their learning path, and evaluating their outcomes. For the remainder of this year, the 2nd and 3rd grade teachers will participate in professional development in Personalized Learning. I also want to recognize Mrs. Donna Held for her leadership with this initiative. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Last week, Mrs. Feiker, Ms. Calarco, and I attended a CESA #1 PBIS training. This year, our goal is to complete the necessary trainings to be recognized as a School of Merit. This means our school would have implemented and sustained elements of the Wisconsin RtI Framework (multi-tiered systems of supports for behavior) with integrity. Wisconsin schools have been implementing PBIS since the Fall of 2006, with rapid growth in the number of trained PBIS schools in Wisconsin. As of July 1, 2015, 1,143 schools in 250 districts in Wisconsin have attended PBIS training. PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff by establishing clear taking active steps in teaching, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate behaviors school wide.
