A Word From Our Administrator Dear Richmond Families, As the weather begins to change please send your child with appropriate outside gear. As winter approaches, please keep in mind that we use the National Weather Service wind chill chart to determine if our students will be sent outside. Indoor recess is determined approximately a half hour before they go outside. Since weather conditions can change dramatically from the morning hours to recess times, please always send your children prepared to go outside. Next week Friday, November 20th at 12:30 Richmond will be hosting our first 2015-16 community Lunch and Learn program. Please consider attending our program that is planned and organized by our Student Council and Mrs. Rae Ellen Eberle. The schedule of events includes a meet and greet with Richmond Administrators, student-led STEM presentation, lunch with Student Council and administration, and school tours led by our Student Council. Additional topics that will be discussed include Love and Logic, iPad use, PBIS, Buddy Program LMC, and Skype. Our K-5 are up and running with Words Their Way. Words Their Way is our new developmental spelling, phonics, and vocabulary program that is intended to be a part of a balanced literacy program that includes fluency, comprehension and writing. Word study is implemented as a component of the literacy plan and is also interwoven in actual reading and writing texts. Words Their Way allows for a personalized approach to learning for students because a pre-assessment provides both the student and teacher feedback that guides next instructional steps. Therefore, students are given words to study based on their learning needs in order to discover the common attributes which allows them to actively construct their own knowledge of spelling patterns. Students learn features of words by completing activities such as word sorting, word hunts, games, drawing and labeling. Students work individually, with partners, and in small groups to maximize their learning and understanding of words. Have a wonderful and safe weekend! Gena Santharam Principal/Director of Special Education Richmond School District

Celebrate World Kindness Day! November 13 is World Kindness Day! Please take a moment to talk to your children about what a difference we can make by being kind. Imagine what the world would be like if each person did one kind thing for someone else. Get started making a difference with these 10 simple ideas: 1. Compliment the first three people you talk to. 2. Write a hand-written note to a teacher. 3. Say good morning to the person next to you on the elevator. 4. Pick up litter. Spend 10 minutes cleaning a park or your neighborhood. 5. Place uplifting notes in library books, on restroom mirrors, on someone's locker, or on their computer screen. 6. Dedicate 24 hours to spreading positivity on social media. 7. Hold up inspiring signs during rush hour. 8. Leave a generous tip. 9. Send flowers to a friend. 10. Set an alarm to go off three times on World Kindness Day. When the alarm sounds, stop what you're doing a call/text/email someone simply to tell them how awesome they are.
