Permission was given for STAR OF ZAAM (IRE) to go to post early. It was noted that WINGED SPUR (IRE) wore earplugs which were removed at the start. An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 furlong out when BEAUDEN BARRETT, placed sixth, ridden by Harry Russell, drifted right and interfered with MAJESTIC MAN (IRE), placed eighth, ridden by Sara Del Fabbro. Russell was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift right causing MAJESTIC MAN (IRE) to be checked slightly. An enquiry was held to consider why Karl Burke, was running COPPER BAKED (FR) here at Ripon on going described as Good, Good to Firm in Places, having declared the filly a non-runner at Nottingham on 10 June 2018 on ground with the same official description. The trainer’s representative stated that having spoken to Mr Burke via telephone, in his opinion the ground at Nottingham was quicker than the official description. She further added that having walked the track at Ripon and consulted with Mr Burke, she felt that Ripon was well watered and therefore less quick than at Nottingham, so was happy for the filly to take her chance. An enquiry was held to consider why Richard Fahey, was running AMAZING MICHELE (FR) here at Ripon on going described as Good, Good to Firm in Places, having declared the filly a non-runner at Beverley the previous evening on ground with the same official description. The trainer’s representative stated that the ground at Beverley had dried from Good at declarations and in his opinion was quicker than the official description, but having walked the track at Ripon, he was happy for the filly to take her chance. Permission was given for ISABELLA (IRE) to go to post early. Clifford Lee, the rider of COPPER BAKED (FR), which dead-heated for third, had appeared to drop his hands and stop riding shortly before the winning post. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Lee was suspended for 5 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that would have finished outright third. It was noted that approximately 1 furlong out, FABULOUS RED, placed second, lugged right giving a slight bump to COPPER BAKED (FR), which dead-heated for third. However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that it did not involve a riding offence and had not improved the placing of FABULOUS RED.

However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that it did not involve a riding offence and had not improved the placing of COPPER BAKED (FR). Following the race, Paddy Mathers reported that FABULOUS RED, placed second, became unbalanced on the undulations. Race 4 - 8:20pm. THE WELLS MEMORIAL CHALLENGE TROPHY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3)
