Innovation Cluster 9 – Robotics 3:30 – 5:30pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 The Innovation and Design Building, 1 Design Center Place (5th floor, Seminar Room), Boston, MA 02210 ISPIM Conference: Robotics Panel and Q&A at the Innovation and Design Building The Massachusetts Technology and Leadership Council’s Robotics Cluster will host a Boston Robotics Innovator’s Panel and Q&A on March 16, 2016 from 3:30-5:30 PM at the Innovation and Design Building in Boston. The Boston Robotics Innovator’s Panel and Q&A will feature a panel from Boston’s ecosystem of robotics innovation thought leaders. Panelists will discuss their company’s innovation in robotics, how they keep innovation fresh, adapt innovation to new markets, highlight the challenges they’ve faced as a robotics innovator, share success stories and unique opportunities for the future. Following the panel, a moderated question and answer session will allow conference attendees to pick our panelists brains. The event takes place March 16, 2016 from 3:30-5:30 PM at the Innovation and Design Building (IDB) in Boston (1 Design Center Place, 5th floor, Seminar Room). The IDB holds significance as an innovative spot for robotics startups and houses MassChallenge as well! Please join us for thought-provoking presentations and a lively discussion. Tom Ryden, Executive Director of MassRobotics, will kick off the session discussing the Robotics ecosystem in New England and the MassRobotics Initiative – a shared work space with amenities specific to robotics company needs, enabling robotic entrepreneurs a better chance at success as well as established companies the ability to stay “fresh” – by visiting, hosting challenges, allowing their innovators sabbaticals etc. in the MassRobotics space. Tom will then moderate a panel of successful thought leaders in the robotics space to examine best practices in keeping innovation in their companies. They will also discuss diversification, finding and adapting to new markets. Panelists: Rethink – Rodney Brooks – Founder, Chairman & CTO, ReThink Robotics Vecna – Daniel Theobald – Co-founder & CTO, Vecna Technologies Artaic – Ted Acworth – Founder & CEO, Artaic, Founder of Insightfil iRobot – Chris Jones – Director for Strategic Technology Development, iRobot Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council The Mass Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC) is the region’s leading technology association and the premier network for tech executives, entrepreneurs, investors and policy leaders. MassTLC’s purpose is to accelerate innovation by connecting people from across the technology landscape,

providing access to industry-leading content and ideas and offering a platform for visibility for member companies and their interests. The MassTLC Robotics Cluster raises awareness for and spurs growth of the region’s thriving robotics industry. The cluster fosters economic development through education, knowledge-sharing, and relationship building among the region’s leading robotic companies, academic research laboratories, policy makers and others.

The New England Robotics Ecosystem includes:  Critical mass of world-class universities; including over 35 robotics R&D programs across 18 institutions  Over 150 innovative companies producing and utilizing robotics applications serving over 11 different markets  New England Robotics Validation and Experimentation (NERVE) Center – UMass Lowell one of 3 NIST test facilities in the nation providing an indoor environment for testing ground based robotics/UMVs with various challenges and obstacles  Joint Base Cape Cod, an FAA joint test site with NY, one of six test sites for Unmanned Air Systems providing a secure environment for early stage outdoor field and environmental testing, including large AUV platforms  Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute dedicated to ocean sciences, engineering, autonomous underwater vehicles development and testing  Highly skilled workforce and supporting and related industries The Innovation and Design Building The Innovation and Design Building (IDB) is a 1.4 million sf mixed-use complex, located in the Innovation District in Boston’s emerging Seaport neighborhood. Meeting the workspace needs of the individuals and companies that are fueling today’s economy with its open, flexible floor plans, high ceilings, and natural light-filled spaces, the Innovation and Design Building is like no other property in Boston. With Jamestown, L.P.’s thoughtful stewardship and ambitious plans for revitalization, the Innovation and Design Building is poised to anchor the eastern portion of the Seaport District, attracting industries that are pioneering the innovation economy. Enhancements to the building include activation of the ground floor with the addition of food vendors, kiosks, and seating, and new event spaces and programming. The enterprising IDB community includes the world's largest start-up accelerator program for early-stage entrepreneurs and a makers community of skilled artisans and craftspeople, and is home to New England's premier antiques market.
