WHO I AM...WHAT I BELIEVE: I’m a small business owner and a limited government conservative who believes that Washington is not only broke, but broken. To turn around our economy and make government more accountable, we need to send someone who has spent 40 years in the private sector creating jobs, dealing with government regulators, negotiating health care coverage for employees, selling a product and making a profit. I’m the only candidate in this race who has run a business for 40 years. I don’t just talk about conservative, free market principles - I have lived them every day. And I will take my pro-jobs, pro-growth, pro-life values to Washington to fight for you.

Core Principles - Returning to the Vision of our Founding Fathers Freedom Matters. While the astronomical growth, spending, and debt we have seen from the federal government is disturbing enough, Americans must also recognize this is coming at the expense of one of our most treasured Constitutional tenets – INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM. Our fight to deconstruct years of liberal polices is not just about spending and fiscal responsibility – this fight is to preserve our God-given freedom, promote individual responsibility, stop programs whose end goal is to control more of our lives and businesses, and prevent America from slipping toward a European model of socialism. The Constitution is Our Foundation. Our Founding fathers set forth a vision which was revolutionary for their time yet it still stands today as the foundation beliefs upon which our nation can forge the most freedom, most prosperity, and better future for our children. For decades, Congress has diminished the importance of the Constitution in deciding legislative matters. As your Congressman, I pledge to strictly adhere to the Constitutional powers as my guidance to all policies. The Role of Citizen Legislators. Career politicians have distorted and deformed the notion of people serving in elected office. Instead, they have created a system where the government imposes its will on the people instead of protecting our freedoms. This must end. We need to be able to elect new people, with new ideas, who come from backgrounds as diverse as our nation. I have already had one career and do not plan to make being in Washington D.C. a second one. If the people of Texas so choose to elect me, I will support term limits. Key Issues to Move America Forward Balancing the Budget. As a business owner, I don’t just talk about balancing the budget, I do it every day. If

revenues are down, expenses must be reduced. As your Congressman, I will support a Balanced Budget Amendment. And I will oppose efforts to raise the debt ceiling. We can’t spend our way back to a balanced budget. We have to start reducing spending and deconstructing years of programs and policies which have only served to grow government, harm the private sector, and impair our freedom. This is a moral imperative in which we must not fail if we are to protect the future for our children and grandchildren.

Entitlement Reform is Critical. In my business, I deal with pension issues for my employees. And I know that

the federal government cannot sustain its current path of entitlement spending. This is an outrage for younger Americans who are paying into a system that won’t be there for them. We need to reform Social Security and give younger Americans the option to invest a portion of their payroll taxes; and we need to reform Medicare so that those who need it the most get direct payments that they can use to purchase private health insurance. The path to entitlement reform lies in empowering people, not government.

Abolishing Earmarks. I oppose earmarks not just because of all the wasteful spending; I oppose them because they represent a corruption of the political process. In my business, we only spend money on ideas that make sense and make dollars for our company. The same should be true for government. If an idea is worth funding, then it should be funded through the normal appropriations process. We should never allow votes to be traded for money. That is why I will support doing away with the earmark process. Ending the Tax Code as We Know It. Not only do I believe we need to lower taxes, I believe we need to utterly

reform the tax code. As a business owner, I know how the current tax code costs money, time, and jobs. While adjustments can be made to help America be more competitive – such as reducing the corporate tax rate – what we truly need is to completely overhaul our tax code with a new system that is simple, fair, and pro-growth. In this regard, I favor either a Flat Tax or the consumption-based Fair Tax .

American Energy Independence is a Critical National Priority. We are all seeing the growing instability

of the Middle East. We cannot continue to send billions of dollars overseas to unstable foreign nations who are threatened by Islamic radicals. Before it is too late, our nation must embark on a “Manhattan Project” to explore, produce, and technologically advance OUR OWN AMERICAN energy supplies. This is simply a matter of national security and the continued survival of our nation.

Stopping Illegal Immigration. Texas is on the front lines in this battle. Our ranchers on the border know the

danger of illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, and human traffickers coming onto their land. Our hospitals, schools, and local governments know the cost of paying for the education and health care of illegal immigrants. Securing the border must be a key priority for our nation – truly this is a Constitutional responsibility in which our government has been an abject failure. While we openly welcome people who follow our laws and are legal immigrants, we need to ensure these individuals assimilate into American society by learning our language, our rich heritage, and respecting our foundational beliefs. To that end, I will support making English the official language of the United States.

Protecting Sanctity of Life. I believe all life is sacred and a gift from God. I oppose abortion and federal

funding of stem cell research. I also know that life begins at conception and does not end until natural death. Upholding Traditional Marriage. I believe marriage is between one man and one woman, period. That is why I will support all efforts to uphold that definition and prevent the encroachment of “gay marriage”.

“From my Cold Dead Hands” – the 2nd Amendment. I’m a Texan, a lifetime NRA member, and a gun

owner. I don’t want anyone messing with my 2nd Amendment rights. And I won’t allow anyone to mess with yours.
