Fee:

£110 per day plus agreed travel expenses.

Hours:

Flexible. Part time working approximately 3 – 4 days per month.

Term:

Contracted until June 2020.

The programme, which began in 2007, currently runs in four regions of the UK, but is expanding to total seven regions. The post holder will work in the new West Midlands region due to a new partnership with HMP Featherstone. The role is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. You will facilitate the smooth running of the project in your region, liaising with local recycling depots and garden centres that act as collection points, transporting tools from collection points to the prison, coordinating Giveaway Days with local school and community groups, and promoting the work of the project. In addition, you will also be responsible for placing any orders of materials the prison workshops may need with the Project Manager. You must hold a current UK driving licence. You will build relationships with local schools and community groups, staff members at HMP Featherstone, and garden centre and recycling depot supervisors. Communication and engagement with these parties is key to the smooth running of the project. You will also work with the Foundation to identify potential job opportunities for prisoners post-release. Working in consultation with the Foundation’s PR Manager, promotion of the Tools Shed project can involve liaising with local media, meeting with garden centres and recycling depots to aid the set-up of new collection points, using social media to raise awareness of the project and give-away days.

Key Responsibilities:  Collecting and transporting donated tools from local garden centre and recycling depot collection points to the prison.  Recording and sorting tools at the collection sites including discarding uncollectable tools.  Liaising with garden centres, recycling depots and prison staff to arrange collections and drop-offs.  Liaising with the Project Manager to provide updates on the project in your region.  Ensuring collection points and prison workshops are running well, including placing orders with the Project Manager for materials and equipment.  Organising Giveaway Days - inviting local schools and community groups to collect the refurbished tools.  Working with the Conservation Foundation’s PR Manager to promote and publicise the Tools Shed project locally.  Aiding the set-up of new collection points by meeting with garden centre and recycling depot supervisors and promoting the work of the Tools Shed project.  Working with the Conservation Foundation to identify potential job opportunities for prisoners post-release. Working Conditions: The post-holder will work within the West Midlands region. Agreed travel expenses will be paid. The work described above will be undertaken on contract for the fee indicated to be carried out within a predetermined timeframe. The work will be supervised by the Project Manager of the Tools Shed project. The contractor should be registered as a sole trader or as self-employed and will be responsible for their own national insurance and tax. They will hold a current UK driving licence.
