Women’s Masters Team 1 What a weekend of hockey. Redlands teams were on fire. Team 1 went into the crossovers undefeated with a 3-1 win over Tweed 2, 1- 0 win over Townsville 1 and a 1 all draw against Cairns. Our semi was late on Saturday night where the fog started to roll in, but that didn’t stop us giving it all we had. Full time and the score board showed 1 all, so into a shoot out we went. Petra and Jo found the box and Hayley was great in stopping 2 of their attempts, but we ended up going down 3-2 so into the finals for position 3\4 on Sunday. L ast game of a great weekend so we thought we’d mix it up a bit and have some fun. Forwards were playing backs, backs were playing strikers, everyone was in a different position except Hayley our goalie. Kim did a great job of trying to befriend (or should I say distract) the other goalie and although we had quite a few walking wounded by now, we had a blinder and won 2-1 which left us in 3rd place in Division 2 for the tournament.

Goal scorers over the weekend were, Robyn Larcombe x 3, Jo Symes x 2, Tammy Drews, Cath Dichmont, Donne Swartz, Petra West and Michelle Cornish. A number of our players nominated for the state team. Congratulations to Jo Symes for being selected in the 45+ Qld team, and to Rebecca (Posh) O’Neill and Petra West for being named as shadows.

Thanks to Gina for coming away as our umpire this year and becoming a part of the Redlands family. To Mel and Stacey, the experience and knowledge passed on, both on and off the field, was invaluable for all, and without massage extraordinaire Kerrie, we would not have made it through the weekend as well as we did. So THANK YOU!!!

To the great bunch of ladies who make up the Redlands teams, thank you for having me along again this year. It is always a blast and even though I don’t play, I am always made to feel like a part of the great team we are. Bring on Townsville in 2018!!!

Sue Aitken Redlands 1 Manager

Women’s Masters Team 2 Day 1, Our first game of the day was played at Jim Geiger Oval also known as “the other field’ or” JG field”, What an amazing ground that was, the grass was immaculate it look like Turf. We unfortunately went down 0-3 to Warwick with the help of lovely Annie managing to score the only goal of the game it just so happened to be for the other team. Our second game of the day was back to the main fields to play Ipswich where we Won 2-1. Day 2, back to the main fields to take on Gympie 2, we had our first draw 0-0 but what a game. After that game we were 3rd in our pool, we then had our playoff game against the 4th team from pool A Mackay 3 where we won 2-0. Day 3, back to the main fields to play our final game for 5th or 6th in our division, we took on Ipswich 3 and drew 1-1, unfortunately we had Nic pull up lame and unable to take the field, however her expert advice was greatly appreciated in the dugout by the Rookie Manager. Highlights/laughs: Sarah the Goalie of all Goalies saving not 1 but 2 penalty shots and shots at goal all while losing her voice. We raised $85 in fines over the weekend thanks to the wonderful fines master Lyndsay keeping track and Annie for collecting. We had some amazing or should I say spectacular dives on the field with special mention to Lou W, Nic, and Daisy for this one. Shas also gets a mention for taking on someone twice her size and winning followed by a sensational walk of shame back to half way for breaking to soon in a penalty corner. For myself as the Rookie first time Manager, by Game 3 I had finally managed to get the paperwork correct only to have the tech bench play a practical joke by asking me how many ticks should there be on the form to which I counted 4 times before I realised I just had to say 11, from that point on they all tried that same joke.

Team 1 and Team 2 were there to support each other at all games, what an amazing effort by both teams cheering each other on, especially with the guard of honour after each game for the playing team as they left the field. AMAZING.

Special thanks to Peta Dunnet who did an amazing Job as our technical official, Angela our resident photographer, I am sure there will be some amazing photos to come and to Shas our Coach for all her hard work leading up to and throughout, trying to work out a schedule that worked for us all to get us all to attend training at her place on the tennis court throughout the week and then early Sunday morning trainings at HZ. To all the team for just being a great bunch of ladies. Special mentions: to Lou Carter, Lou received a state award for her services to Qld Masters. All in all it was a fantastic weekend of Hockey with some amazing skills being shown by all. What a fantastic group of ladies to represent Redlands Hockey. April Rose Team 2 Manager

Congratulations - Lou Carter At the Women’s Masters State Championships on the weekend Lou Carter was recognised with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Masters Hockey in a local Association . Without Lou’s commitment and tireless work Redland’s Women’s Masters Hockey would not be what it is today. Congratulations and Thank You Lou!

With finals fast approaching, it is fun to look back over the years see who have been the victors each year. Watch this space for 2017 winners. See the many colourful names that our teams have chosen over the years and the many divisions of hockey that have been played.
