Around the Fields Saturday 9th, first round of the 2016 season. What a beautiful day but very hot. Please remember to drink lots of water and keep applying sunscreen. There will now be water stations located near the tech benches and shed. There was quite a bit happening on the field and off - Paul Sciberras and Crispin Swartz our roving reporters were at Bay FM chatting on the radio. Catch what they had to say here. (it is about 15 mins in).

Team Reports Under 7 Rookies. It was wonderful to see so many excited young players eager to start a great season of hockey. It was great to see them having a go and working together as a team for the first time and I cannot wait to see them grow and develop their skills. They started their session with an introduction to some of the basic skills of hockey and then progressed into some drills shooting towards the goal. They played a short game and then ended with an exciting game of ‘dog and bone’ which was a real hit with all the players. A huge congratulations goes to Levi who was awarded Player of the Week and Matilda who received the encouragement award. Thanks Jade and Maddi Coach Jade and CoCoach Maddy with RDO Rob and Levi and Matilda

Under 16 Whites played really well as a team today. Despite many members being new, having three away and no subs, they pulled it together to win 6-0. However, it must be noted, that the game looked a lot closer and was tougher than the scores indicate. Congratulations to Rhys (4), Zali (1) and Lucy (1) on their goals and the rest of the team for getting the ball to them. There was also a great defence, which was really consistent, and Paul, the coach especially acknowledged this today with the player of the day being awarded to Michelle Meadows for her consistency in the backs. We are also greatly indebted to Zoe and Sophie who filled in playing a second game and still managed to push and push themselves to be in the right place and to keep going. Fundraising Welcome to the 2016 season. To kick off this season’s weekly raffles we have a voucher from Yatala Pies this week. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. All managers will, or should, have your team’s raffle book and some, if not most, will have a roster for your players to sell each week. Please remember to take your turn to sell these tickets as it contributes significantly to our association’s funding and keeps our registration fees as low as possible. If you sincerely object to selling tickets please consider this. Blocks of time spent selling raffle tickets contribute to your Volunteer hours. Managers have all the information required to assist you with selling tickets and where to return them to, but if in doubt please see Angela at the Fundraising Desk. Please remember to support our businesses who support us. Weekly raffles are drawn at the Rehydration Bar at the end of the day. Feel free to come to the Fundraising Desk if you would like to buy a ticket and haven’t seen anybody selling tickets.

Mother’s Day raffle tickets will be coming out this week. Your manager will receive these from me before your game this week for distribution. These tickets are $2 each. Please ask everybody you know if they would like to buy tickets and you are welcome to take a second or third book to sell. For legal reasons, please ensure all tickets are returned whether sold or not by Saturday, 7th May. Major prizes werestill to be confirmed at the time of writing, but stay tuned to Facebook during the week. They will also be printed on the tickets. Thanks. Angela Woodall, 0419 197 396.
