Goalkeepers most welcome.

UMPIRES Click here to see if you are on umpire duty this week. This Saturday we have the first of 3 Technical Assessment days for the season. You only need to do one, so if you feel you are not ready for this week, don’t worry; the other 2 technical test days are scheduled during June and August. There is a choice of 2 technical tests - 1/2 field and Full field. 1/2 field is aimed for young umpires wishing to graduate from being mentored, to umpiring an U9’s game. Full field covers the U12’s games (possibly initially being mentored whilst umpiring), eventually leading to umpiring on your own the U16’s and Senior games. For the full field test, please advise Richard what level you would like to aim for (RHA level 2, 3 or 4). It’s the same technical test, only the % pass mark increases with each level. Level 4 is tough to get. We will confirm the correct level you should be aiming to achieve, based on your current level. The test takes approximately 40-45 mins. To back up the technical test, you will also undergo 2 to 3 practical assessments over the coming weeks, depending on the RHA level you are wanting to achieve. You will then be awarded your final mark and the RHA level that you have attained. You can re-take a technical test if you wish - the idea is to elevate your standards, not to fail you. You can climb more than 1 level during the season by taking further assessments. Let Richard know by COB Thursday 19/05/16, should you want to do your technical assessment this Saturday. TECHNICAL COURSES. As promised Hockey Qld is running a Level 1 on 21/5 at SHC – see link below. A Level O will be held at the SHC in early July – date to be confirmed.

Fundraising Weekly Raffle Congratulations to last week’s winner of the Cheesecake Shop Cleveland’s voucher - Paul Sciberras. I’m sure it’s already been redeemed and well and truly enjoyed. Thank you to all the teams who are selling tickets in the raffle every week. A huge ‘Thank You’ to the Senior Womens Red team who are the first senior team for the last two seasons to sell tickets and have established a very simple system to take them through the whole season. Sarah Curran-Smith has organised her ladies to ensure they have their tickets each week and I’d suggest having a chat with her if you’d like to implement it for your senior team. For this, she has earned the coffee voucher this week. Thanks Sarah! This week the prize is Broncos tickets to the Canberra game on 9 June.

Chocolate Drive Chocolate boxes go home this week. Juniors will have received theirs from their managers at training this week. Seniors will receive theirs from their manager just prior to their games on Saturday. Senior team managers will need to ensure they collect from the Fundraising Desk. Money will be due back by Saturday 11 June. Please do not return any chocolates after this time. Families will receive one volunteer levy credit for every box they sell and are welcome to contact Angela for more boxes as we will have a few spare, but first in best dressed. Please only take a box if it has your name on the label. Many problems were created last year when people had the wrong boxes. We have a fantastic prize this year for the family selling the most boxes. To be eligible for the $50 Rebel Sports gift card, you must have sold the most boxes and returned the money by 9 July, the first round after the school holidays. This means you can take a few boxes if we have them and can take a couple of weeks to sell them. However, you must have returned your initial box payment by the due date. In the event of a tie such as we had last year, it will be the family who has brought all their money in the earliest. Thank you. Angela Woodall

Fundraising Coordinator No playing in the toilets please. The last couple of weeks there have been children found playing in the toilets, Parents can you please remind your children that the toilets are not a playground and to tidy up after use. Apart from being quite dangerous with hard surfaces and slippery when wet, it is unhygienic and we need to care for our facilities. If there are any issues please see one of the board members that are wandering around. As food and loos don’t mix, please don’t ask the canteen staff.

The Admin Desk is manned from 11:00am to 12:00 noon on Saturday mornings. If you have any urgent queries please email Brian on [email protected] or phone him on 0408 861712. Don’t forget to collect your weekly umpire payments.

Canteen The wonderful helpers from u12 Maroon were up in the Canteen volunteering this week. Thankyou for all who came in and helped out in one way or another! Your support is very much appreciated. Its nice to see all the regulars come up to the canteen for their weekly fix of either a nice cold drink or some of our yummy food. Don’t forget your turn on the teams fruit roster…. Why not make it easy - order through the canteen and all you have to do is come up and pick up the nicely chopped fruit ready for your team to recharge at half time.

Team Reports Under 9’s Blue team is now officially named ‘The Blue Tongues’. The team under the direction of Melita and Zali are really working well together and the members of the team that are new comers to hockey are learning and developing. This showed in this week’s game against The White team where in the first half the team really worked well as a team, passing between each other to help set up and score some great goals. Second half showed how the team can defend with White attacking for most of the half. Unfortunately we occasionally forgot which way we were going when we were able to defend successfully only having to turn around and defend again. Really great defence by both teams in which a great game resulted providing great entertainment for spectators.

Player of the Match this week was Sebastian Curnow with Madalynne Wallis receiving the Achievement Award. Meet the U12 White Tigers: This week’s Encouragement Award went to Mia Underhill and the Player of the Week award went to Meg Underhill. Harrison Underhill played an awesome game as first time goalkeeper letting nil goals through! We welcome the triplets to the team and a couple of other new players as well who are all settling in really well and making a great contribution already. JJ and J are our enthusiastic and inspiring coaches and we are all looking forward to continuing a great season of team work and support together. We also want to wish all our team members who are competing in U13 rep teams the best of luck: Zak Grummitt, Liam Smith, Sinead Swartz, Sophie Beardmore and Zoe Carter – above all have fun and enjoy the games, go Redlands! Amanda – Team Manager

White Wolves had another hard game this week against Green Grenades. The Grenades seemed to dominate from the start with Jay scoring for them from a penalty corner in the 9th minute. However, the Wolves persisted and pulled together as a team. Working together they tussled for the ball resulting in Rhys scoring two field goals, and finishing the half 2:1 to the Wolves. The second half was just as tough with lots of intercepts, challenges, tackles and chasing back for both teams. Players backed each other up, did some amazing saves and some beautiful breaks and hits. Crispin was player of the match today, doing some great work on the wing, chasing some long hits and scoring in the second half. Zali also scored off a penalty corner, but the Grenades were not finished, with Brook scoring a field goal in the last 3 minutes. All the Wolves worked diligently against the tough Grenades, and shared in the victory. Keep up your team work Wolves.

After a few weeks of working on positional play and systems hockey, the Maroon side and hopefully the gold side will have started to see the benefits of allowing the ball to do the work. The Maroon U16 side are playing a much more structured form of hockey and have started to gain trust in the ability to throw the ball around and utilising all the players on the park. A very improved performance, even if some of the players are realising the benefits of working hard off the ball to create an option in support of the player on the ball…it is a running game after all! Special mention should be made to the following players, Kayley for an excellent performance in defence and for maintaining composure when outnumbered by the high running attacking forwards, and to Riley in goal who makes the result look even better. Well done to everyone for a superb team effort this weekend Keep thinking off the ball and working hard to support the players around you.

Thank you team managers for these reports, if others would like to submit a team report, please send through to me at [email protected].
