Essential Venue Guide

With award-wining architecture, Arthur’s Seat as a backdrop and an international-standard diving pool, the Royal Commonwealth Pool will provide a dramatic setting for the Aquatics (Diving) competition.

At the Royal Commonwealth Pool For everyone’s safety and enjoyment of the event, all spectators will pass through an airport style screening process for prohibited and restricted items before being allowed into venues. Facilities

Important information

– Spectator Information Point, including induction hearing loop, pushchair and wheelchair storage, and Lost & Found service for people and property.



– Our athletes require complete silence before and during each dive, so please refrain from excessive noise and movement. Mobile phones must be silent throughout the session, and flash photography is not permitted.

– Alcohol can be purchased from the food & drink kiosk, but may not be brought into the venue from outside.

– Wheelchair loan and wheelchair pushing service. – Accessible toilets and Changing Places toilet. –

Assistance dog spending & water area.

Ticket office.

– Both food & drink and merchandise kiosks will accept cash and credit/debit cards (except AmEx). Programme sellers will accept cash only. No ATMs/cashback facility will be available. If you need to visit an ATM, please do so before you arrive at the venue. ATMs are located on Newington Road, approximately 5 minutes’ walk away.

P lan your journey now. Make sure you know how to reach the venue and allow plenty of time for travel, queuing systems at transport hubs, and security checks.

–  Use public transport – do not drive to the venue. Except limited prebookable facilities for Blue Badge holders, there will be no parking or setdown/pick-up points for private cars at or near the venue.

–  Bringing a bag may slow down your entry. Each spectator is permitted one small bag no larger than 25 litres (equivalent to 30 x 20 x 20 cm/12” x 8” x 8”). It must be soft sided and fit under your seat.

– Walking to and from the Royal Commonwealth Pool may be the easiest option, particularly after each session, when public transport is expected to be busiest. Signage and volunteers will be on hand to guide you.

– Spectators with an accessible ticket can bring a wheelchair into the seating area. All other ticket holders with wheelchairs, prams or pushchairs must use the storage facility. Just ask a member of staff for assistance.

– Entry gates will open 90 minutes before each session starts. Arrive in plenty of time to allow for security and ticket checks. Try to be in your seat 15 minutes before your session begins.

– Children under the age of two years on 23 July 2014 will not require a ticket or be allocated a seat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and may not enter the venue alone.

– It’s warm in there! We recommend you wear layers and drink plenty of water.

–  Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is not permitted within any Games venue. This includes any open air space within the venue perimeter. Smoking is discouraged immediately outside venues.

– It’s not possible to leave the Royal Commonwealth Pool and re-enter – make sure you bring everything you need (e.g. medication, nappies etc).

– All containers of liquids, aerosols or gels – except sunscreen (200ml) and nonalcoholic drinks (500ml) – must be 100ml or under in volume. – You can bring a plastic water bottle of 500ml or under. –  The following items will not be permitted inside the Royal Commonwealth Pool: cans; glass; horns, vuvuzelas or similar items; flags of non-participating nations, affiliations or organisations; all photographic equipment over 30cm in length, including tripods and monopods; golf style umbrellas, large bags, coolbags and picnic hampers. –  The following items are prohibited and illegal under Scottish law: knives; firearms; ammunition; explosives; toxic or irritant chemicals; CS spray; illegal drugs and similar substances. – For full details and guidelines, visit: glasgow2014.com/tickets

Edinburgh is a compact city and walking takes 23 minutes from Waverley Station. Cycling (8 minutes to cycle parking) may be your quickest way of travelling to the Royal Commonwealth Pool. Bags and panniers may not be left unattended in the cycle parking area.

Near the Royal Commonwealth Pool – Arthur’s Seat Take in panoramic views over Edinburgh from the top of Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park. It’s a moderately easy climb to the top and well worth the effort.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh Art Festival and Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo kick off the summer season from 31 July, followed by the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh International Festival in mid-August. – Boutique shopping Grassmarket and West Bow, just off George IV Bridge, offer an eclectic combination of small boutiques, jewellers’ and vintage shops as well as cafés bars and restaurants.
