Target audience: The DBS provides these events to help employers and managers of volunteers understand their legal obligations and responsibilities, following safeguarding incidents. To attend you should be responsible for managing safeguarding allegations. Do you: investigate safeguarding incidents, alert safeguarding leads in the local authority and/or the police, have responsibility for any resulting disciplinary, or other such action that leads to removal from your organisation and make referrals to the DBS? Details: Our primary aim is to help those who work with vulnerable groups, including children understand their referral duty. These events will let you know about making safeguarding referrals to the DBS. They are targeted to those who have a responsibility for removing individuals from regulated activity posts where harm has, or may occur. Feedback shows that delegates have a better understanding of legislative requirements after attending an event. Topics covered include: background to the DBS and legislative changes, the statutory functions of the DBS, referral responsibilities and guidance, regulated activity, relevant conduct and risk of harm definitions, the DBS barring decision making processes and considerations To book:

This workshop applicable to frontline practitioners, managers and commissioners Details: An estimated 200,000 children are affected by parental imprisonment across England and Wales every year and 10,000 visits are made to public prisons every week by children and young people. The likelihood is that the majority of professionals working with children and families, whether in education, social care, health or criminal justice, will have come into contact with children and families affected by this issue. Parental imprisonment can have a significant negative impact on children’s outcomes – affecting all areas of their wellbeing. Target audience: Frontline professionals working with vulnerable people Details: This training session recognises that frontline professionals working with vulnerable groups of people may come across victims of human trafficking in their day to day work. Many, however have limited knowledge and understanding of trafficking, how to recognise the signs or what to do if they suspect that someone is a victim. This can result in victims never being identified or helped and the perpetrators escaping justice. Through the Hope for Justice training, participants should be able to: explain what human trafficking is and the different types that exist recognise the signs or indicators of different types of trafficking and know how to respond appropriately to a victim and a case of human trafficking should they come across one

The theme will support the school curriculum in terms of literacy. Young people will have the opportunity to work on something that they feel is important. The event will be judged and young people will be rewarded with the opportunity to present their work at the event. ‘Working in the margins’: Meeting the safeguarding needs of children with disabilities and complex health needs Time:

Target audience: The session is suitable for practitioners working in the school nursing special needs team and child and adolescent mental health teams. There are a limited number of places available for staff working in the local authority in specialist education services, portage and children’s complex health and disability team Details: This is a collaborative workshop, utilising the experience of participants to explore how we meet the safeguarding needs of children with disabilities or complex health needs. The audience will hear about the work of the Bradford disabled children’s challenge panel. There will be an evidence based focus on working with children and families who are on the margins of child protection processes. There will be an opportunity to consider the workers reflective capacities and how this influences decision making around supporting and safeguarding the wellbeing of vulnerable children and their families

When is adult self-neglect a safeguarding issue?

Time: 1.30pm - 4.30pm Venue: New Mill, Victoria Road, Saltaire, BD18 3LD Presenters: Sally Griffen, workforce development officer BMDC, Noel McEvoy, safeguarding lead, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Lesley Latham, safeguarding lead, BDCFT Target audience: Any worker who comes into contact with adults who selfneglect and managers or team leaders who support or advise frontline staff. This event is also open to employees in statutory, independent and voluntary sector Details: This session will consider what self-neglect is, its causes and how to respond to it. Questions will be raised about when it becomes a safeguarding issue and what safeguarding or other procedures can do. This is an interactive session being led by the Safeguarding Voice Group to raise awareness of the different types of abuse and the ways in which it can be reported and stopped. Prizes will be given to the winners! We are available to come to your site; it is the responsibility of the organisations who make the booking with us to provide a suitable room or venue and support staff for any individuals who may require this.

Target audience: Service users and support providers (volunteers and staff) who work with adults at risk across Bradford. The session is suitable for various client groups. Each session can accommodate up to 15 players. Individuals could be supported by a support worker or carer to play and participate. Date/time: Various dates and times available across the week. Contact us to check availability. The session should take about 1½ hrs depending on the number of players. Venue: We are available to come to your site; it is the responsibility of the organisations or providers who request us to visit their site to ensure that they book a suitable venue or room and provide support staff for individuals who will need this.
