Introduction to Self Study ● Providence Day School is a vibrant independent school of 1600 students, if the school were to adopt a motto, it might be “PDS students are empathetic problem solvers who aspire to be the change they want to see in the world.”

Visiting Team Observations ● The visiting team encountered a school in which every stakeholder group cherishes the sense of . As we met with students, parents, faculty/staff, board members, and administrators, it was abundantly clear that PDS values input from all key stakeholders and, as a result, there is a high level of buy-in for the strategic goals and self-study initiatives. Commendations: Cont’d ● Managing the transition of key school leaders in a fashion that has preserved school culture and maintained parent confidence. ● A Board of Trustees that values risk-taking (culture of evolution), and best practices as it relates to governance. ● Being the first independent school to seek accreditation using the GEBG standards. ● Having a nationally recognized extended day program that attracts prospective families to PDS; for being recognized for eleven consecutive years in North Carolina as a family-friendly organization.

Recommendations ● Revisiting the mission statement to acknowledge that Providence Day School has embraced and is recognized as a forerunner in global citizenship education. ● Increasing the diversity of the leadership team to mirror more closely the diversity of the PDS community. ● Developing quantitative and qualitative metrics to measure progress toward the goals of the self-study.
