Welcome to the 2017 Hamble Valley Festival of Food, which sees the village of Hamble stuffed full of delicious food and drink and exciting activities for all the family to enjoy. This year’s festival follows a maritime and nautical theme to celebrate the martime heritage of the River Hamble and links with Jane Austen as part of Jane Austen 200.

Did you know?

Jane Austen, her mother and sister lived with Frank and his family in Southampton and they were keenly interested in the boats that were built locally for the navy. Frank went on to captain Nelson’s old flagship from the battle of Copenhagen, the Bursledon built, Elephant. He saw service with the ship during the war of 1812 with America.

with Professor Gary Wilson 11am & 2pm. Have your funny bone tickled by Traditional Punch and Judy featuring well known characters including; Joey the clown, the policeman, the crocodile and of course the sausages!

Nautical & Maritime Crafts

Mermaid, pirate and boat themed crafts will be taking place with BellaCrafts from 10am. You will also have the opportunity to take part in pebble painting and a chance to paint your own water image! Big Cat Jungle parties are returning to the Quay to demonstrate balloon modelling including marine turtle bracelet, fish, an anchor or your very own pirate sword! Throughout the day.

Nautical Costume Parade and competition To celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Jane Austen come along dressed in home made Jane Austen or nautical costume for a fun parade. Judging (with prizes for best adult and child) by The Mayor Of Eastleigh at 1.30pm at Hamble Lifeboat Station. Free - collect an application form from the Hamble Valley Stand during the festival.

Hampshire Farmers’’ Market is a gourmet’s heaven This special Hampshire Farmers’ Market will run between 10am and 4pm, selling a whole variety of fresh produce including locally grown or produced soft fruit, vegetables, free range lamb, beef and pork, honey, cheeses, sausages, bacon, fish, jams and chutneys, plants, wine and beer, cakes, bread and more! Plus! Local producers market Support local Hamble Valley producers and businesses who will be selling a range of local produce, samples and tastings.

and Sunday lunch for 4 people Follow the clues dotted around the festival and Hamble High Street to find the letters that will piece together this Hamble treasure. Once finished, all you need to do is hand your trail sheet to the event information stand where you will be entered to WIN Sunday Lunch for 4 at The Bugle, Hamble; plus you will receive a sweet treat if you crack all the clues and piece together the word. The Bugle is a historic waterside inn, boosting an AA rosette for its food and ideally located by the River Hamble. Old Sea Dogs Band performing 11.30am -2.00pm Enjoy a salty repertoire of songs and tunes ranging from traditional sea shanties such as “A-Roving” and “Blow the Man Down” to numbers like “Hearts of Oak” and “Rule Britannia”

on Southern Quay Organised by Hamble Hounds, Dog Training & Problem Solving & Oscar Pet Foods. Classes start at 1.30pm - 4.00pm on the Southern Quay Fun for all the family! Starting at 1.30pm with a Hamble Hounds Display. All dogs must be able to cope with crowds and other dogs. No registration needed. Each class £2.

Frank Austen & The Elephant Talk

with Dr Cheryl Butler Starts at 12.30pm, Hamble Lifeboat Station A talk on Jane Austen’s brother Frank Austen and The Elephant, which was a ship built in Bursledon that went on to be Nelson’s flagship at the battle of Copenhagen.

Maritime Memories Heritage Walk with the Hamble Valley & Eastleigh Heritage Guide Meet at 11am on the Quay outside the Royal Southern Yacht Club. Discover some of the history and maritime heritage of Hamble-le-rice on a local village walk. £2 donation per adult. Children free but must be accompanied by an adult. Walk lasts approximately 1 hour.

Travel information: Reduce congestion on the roads and use public transport if you can, or burn off the calories by bike or on foot! PARKING: Will be at Donkey Derby field. Access to Donkey Derby Field will be via School Lane, please follow diversions. Please ensure safety at all times when walking to, from and around the event site.
