Savvina Karros is the Philafieldhockey.com Student-Athlete of the Week Club: UNITED Division: U19 Independence Tournament: Kutztown University Tournament

Karros played a major defensive role in leading the UFHC U19 Independence team to 1st place at the Kutztown Tournament this past weekend. “She is a force, nabbing the ball from the opposing attackers when they try to get by her. She then transitions it nicely to the offense to initiate successful scoring plays,” said Jill Dull, UNITED Director and Coach. Karros and her sister Evvie are new to UNITED but has been playing field hockey for seven years. Karros is a former member of the Twin Valley Field Hockey Club, played at Twin Valley Middle School, and is a varsity player at Bishop Shanahan High School. She will serve as the team captain for Shanahan this fall, as a senior. Karros is an Honors student, carrying a 3.5 GPA with a demanding course load including AP History. She is a member of the French Club, Community Service Corps and a Respect Life Ambassador. Karros has proven herself as a leader on the hockey field and at school, having served on the Student Council. In addition to her busy academic and athletic life, Karros is active at her Greek Orthodox Church. She was recently chosen to represent her parish as the Ambassador of Love at the annual banquet sponsored by the Bishop. To top it off, Karros is an accomplished violinist who has been playing for six years. She a member of the BSHS Orchestra, performing in school concerts and musicals. She earned a 1st place ribbon for her recital in the prestigious NJ Metropolis Signs and Sounds Contest. Karros is exploring her college options and is considering majoring in the sciences, but is keeping her artistic options open in history, art and writing as possible majors. Clubs share equal time in honoring Players of the Wk. Differently in the fall, players are nominated by coaches.
