Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls 2015-2016 Impact Report Each year, Soroptimist International of the Americas awards Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls to Soroptimist clubs throughout the federation. By addressing specific local needs, these grants help clubs make a lasting difference in the lives of women and girls in their communities. For the 2015-2016 club year, 43 projects received grants totaling $177,000 including $123,500 given to 30 clubs of funds raised through the 2013-2015 SI December 10th President’s Appeal for projects related to education and leadership. Grants ranged from $1,000 to $10,000 each and were given to clubs in six different countries: Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, and the United States. Clubs that receive grants provide information about project objectives and outcomes, including stories of participants. Thirty-nine projects have been completed to date. Four clubs received extensions to complete their projects. The results from the final impact reports are as follows:  10,804 women and girls were helped  The average cost per life changed was $16.38  1384 women and girls were provided opportunities for economic advancement  1,772 women and girls were given tools and resources to help them live free from violence  2,938 women and girls gained access to educational opportunities  4,710 women gained access to healthcare  100% of clubs reached their stated objectives

Listed below are three samples from the 2015-2016 final impact reports: SI/Batangas Premiere, Philippines (Philippines Region), Self and Social Enhancement, $3,000 SI/Batangas Premiere used their grant to lead a livelihood training project making eco bags at a local women's prison. Funds were used to purchase supplies for the bags and sewing machines. Club members led the training sessions and assisted the women in selling their products. The project aimed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of women inmates and to develop the women’s skills for employment. The club measured the success of the project by tracking production and income. SI/Trenton Area, USA (Midwestern Region), A New Beginning: Transforming Victims into Survivors, $8,500 SI/Trenton Area used their grant to implement a program to help young women who are survivors of human trafficking, including the Dream It, Be It and My Life, My Choice curriculums. Funds were used to purchase journals and program materials and cover the cost of transportation. Club members planned and implemented the Dream It, Be It portion of the curriculum for participants. The project aimed to increase access to supportive treatment and reintegration assistance for trafficking survivors, as well as to increase their life skills and goal setting skills. The club measured the success of the project via surveys and tracking the girls’ progress in the program. Impact:  82% decreased self-harmful behaviors  100% substance free while in the program  10% truancy rate  82% improved psychosocial functioning  100% improved safety and moral development  82% improved school functioning  75% improved family functioning  80% discharged to less restrictive placements  70% successful program completion  14 girls completed an individual education and career plan SI/Canoas, Brazil (Brazil Region), Gastronomy Course, $10,000 SI/Canoas used their grant to offer a professional training course in gastronomy that will lead to employment for 40 young women in economic and socially vulnerable situations. Funds were used to purchase a computer, pots and kitchen utensils and catering equipment. Club members helped conduct the workshops, publicize the course, and connect with companies to hire the students. The project aimed to improve employment prospects for 40 young women in economic and socially vulnerable situations. The club measured the success of the project by tracking participants’ course completion, job opportunities, and income. Impact:  9 women became qualified in the gastronomy area  31 girls became qualified in the gastronomy area  90% of project graduates received job opportunities and income to support their families 2015-2016 Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls:          
