School Discipline and Equity Conference Oct. 3, 2016 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Keynote speaker will be the nationally recognized Judge Steven C. Teske, chief judge of the Juvenile Court of Clayton County who serves regularly as a Superior Court judge by designation. Local experts in exclusionary discipline practice alternatives will also present during breakout sessions.

Get acquainted with a comprehensive and transformational approach to school discipline that will help students communicate effectively, establish healthy boundaries and resolve conflict. These practices allow students to focus on academics, community building and future opportunities. Principals, counselors, teachers, school safety officers, attendance officers and other staff members responsible for school safety are invited to attend. Participants will learn new ways to: • Restore a sense of community in a disconnected world • Prevent students from entering the “school to prison pipeline” • Learn a holistic approach to help children resolve conflict Location: Harris County Department of Education 6300 Irvington Blvd., Houston, TX 77022 Credits: 6 There is no cost, but registration is limited.
