[email protected] ) Course Description This course offers users an overview of the district’s learning management system, Schoology, with activities to acquaint participants with basic features of the system and ideas for classroom use. PD is delivered online through selfpaced learning modules (asynchronous) that include video and document based tutorials. Additionally, participants will meet in person or online (synchronous via webinar; e.g., GoToWebinar) for realtime support and discussion. Learning Goals Participants will gain a basic understanding of the Schoology Learning Management System and develop basic fluency and skills within the LMS for classroom, communication, and collaborative use. Learning Outcomes Participants will build a “course” within Schoology that can be tailored for use with their own students or colleagues. Course Structure This course is delivered entirely online with both asynchronous (independent, selfpaced) learning assignments and synchronous (realtime webinar or inperson) presentations and discussions. Participants opting to earn CEU’s (continuing education units) will earn 9 CEU hours for successful completion of the course. Course Requirements to Participate and Earn CEU’s Equipment/Software ● ●

Course Communication – Announcements and Feed Posts Updates and announcements will be posted in the Schoology course. Participants will need to enable notifications via email and/or within the mobile Schoology App. Participants must check the updates section for communication from course facilitator.
Course Outline Section One: Getting Started with Schoology This first section of the course is designed to give participants a highlevel overview of the Schoology learning management system and includes activities that show users how to manage the personal tools area and complete their platform profile. Activities and completion timelines include: ● ● ●
Prior to June 6, 2016 (before 10 a.m.) : Prewebinar video: Schoology introductory video (22 minutes) June 6, 2016 – 10:00 a.m. : Attend/participate in introductory webinar (online or inperson) June 628, 2016 : Watch videos, read documents, and complete required learning activities
The Webinar will kickoff the Getting Started with Schoology course and will include a course introduction and details of the district’s enterprise edition of Schoology. All participants must participate in the webinar (online or inperson) in order to stay enrolled in the course. Section Two: Creating and Managing Groups in Schoology Schoology groups provide a means for users to communicate, collaborate, and share resources around specific topics, subjects, or other areas of focus and as a vehicle for establishing and growing an online professional personal learning network (PLN). Groups are commonly used to discuss best practices across disciplines and share ideas and resources. The coursework in this section of the program is delivered online and is fully selfpaced. Participants will learn how to create groups, add members, post updates, and share resources. Users will learn the why and how of creating groups that support the specific needs of students, school, and community. Part Four: Personal Resource Repository Personal "Resources" is an area within Schoology that offers a convenient, flexible, and easily shareable library of created, curated, or otherwise acquired learning objects/materials that can be incorporated into lessons and other coursework and quickly and easily shared with various stakeholders and learners throughout the district; even to a larger, global network of colleagues. This section is online and selfpaced and teaches participants how to build resource libraries, organize collections, reuse materials across lessons, courses, and terms, and share with intended audiences. Technology TOSA will schedule an optional workshop to support the participants of this course. Workshops will be scheduled on an as needed basis with location to be determined.
