First event of Day 4 for Inverclyde was the Men’s 15 & over 200m Freestyle featuring Kian McNelis. Seeded 16th for this event Kian was feeling fresh and ready to go. A fast first 50m in a time of 29:41seconds got Kian off to a great start. Settling in to a steady pace for the next 100m, Kian then increased the his work rate for the final 50m to finish in a time of 2:09:05 in 13th position overall. A great swim Kian, now time to get ready for your next race. Lauren Macleay was next up in the Women’s 15 & Over 50m Backstroke. Lauren was Seeded 17th for the event however a really strong swim in what was a frantic sprint, moved her up to 14th position overall, a great achievement for a Long Course event. After quick recovery Kian McNelis was back up on the blocks for the Men’s 15 & Over 400m Individual Medley. A technically challenging race, Kian started the event seeded in 21st position. This was always going to be a tough race for Kian following his earlier 200m freestyle swim, however his ability to settle quickly into a steady pace helped him work his way through the stokes, before finishing with a really strong and fast performance in the final 100m freestyle. This gave Kian an overall improvement in his position up to 19th overall with a very respectable Long Course time of 5:23:31. Although his mornings work was not yet over, Kian emerged from the pool too shattered to walk, just as well Lauren was on hand to help!!

Event 408 was the Men’s 17 & over 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Club Captain Thomas Cannon got the race of to a flying start finishing his leg in 58:75 seconds, it was them over to Fraser McCulloch who powered through his 100m in a time of 1:01:79 before handing over to his

brother Lewis who started really fast with a first 50m time of 27:54 finishing in 1:00:43. Responsibility for the final leg was with Joe McCallion who absolutely smashed his opening 50m in a time of 26:52 finishing in 56:78 giving the guys and overall time of 3:57:75 which was a massive 5:35 second improvement on their previous best.

Mens 17 & Over 4x100m Freestyle Relay Joe McCallion, Thomas Cannon, Lewis McCulloch & Fraser McCulloch The final Inverclyde race of the morning was the Boys 14 -16 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Inverclyde were able to field 2 teams for this event;

Team A - Nathan Gemmill, Matthew Garrity Kian McNelis & Sam Sharkey

Team B – Ben Skinner, Sean Fisher-Keogh Lyall Black & Adam Brooks

Responsibility for the opening leg for Team B was given to Lyall Black who duly set a fast pace for the others to follow. Fishing his leg in 1:03:56 Lyall handed over to Ben Skinner who powered through his first 50m turning in just under 30seconds and finishing in 1:04:2. Adam Brooks was them off and flying through his 100m finishing in 1:04:21 leaving Sean FisherKeogh with the anchor leg. A really fast 50m set Sean up well to see out the remaining 50m

finishing in 1:01:97 giving the team and overall time of 4:14:94 which was a very impressive 5:35 seconds improvement on their previous best. First off for Team A was Sam Sharkey who set an early fast pace with a time of 1:00:50 handing over to Nathan Gemmill who also set off at a high pace in his first 50m which he was able to maintain to finish in a time of 59:94. Matthew Garrity was then off for the 3rd leg, settling in to the same pace as the previous swimmers, Matthew powered through his leg to finish in a time of 59:07. Suitably recovered from his exertions earlier this morning, Kian McNelis was then left to bring home the team and duly did so with a storming swim to finish his leg in 58:04 giving an overall time of 3:57:55 a unbelievable 8.22 second improvement on their previous best which moved them up from 23rd to 13th position overall.

Event 421 Girls 11-14 200m Individual Medley – Molly Cannon Event 423 Girls 11-14 100m Butterfly – Molly Cannon & Aimee Watson Event 425 Girls 11-14 50m Backstroke – Aimee Watson Event 426 Boys 11-14 400m Individual Medley – Matthew Garrity

First Race of the afternoon saw Molly Cannon competing in the Girls 11-14 200m Individual Medley. Seeded 27th for this event, Molly got off to great start and with a very impressive 50m Fly time of 33:84, working her way steadily through the stokes before powering to a finish with a time of 36:40 for her final 50m Freestyle. A great race from Molly which gave her an overall time of 2:39:00 and moved her up to 21st position. Next race for Inverclyde swimmers was the Girl’s 11 – 14 100m Butterfly featuring Molly Cannon & Aimee Watson. Still recovering from her 200m IM swim, Molly was off again and swimming well. A great start with an opening 50m time of 33:81, set Molly up well and gave her an overall time of 1:13:55 and 22nd position overall. Time now for Molly to recover before tomorrow’s races. Swimming in one of her favourite events, Aimee was ready to go and hoping to improve on her 12th place seeding. Clocking 31:71 for her first 50m, Aimee was in a great position in the opening stages of the race and managed to hold her place to finish in a time of 1:09:62. This was a 1:48 second improvement on her Personal Best which moved her up to 6th position and qualifying for the tonight’s final. Similar to Molly, there was little time for Aimee to recover before she was back in the water for the Girl’s 11-14 50m Backstroke. Up against some strong competition, this was always going to be a challenge for Aimee. A powerful performance over this short distance gave Aimee a time of 34:11 and moving her up to 20th position overall. Inverclyde’s last race of the session was the Boy’s 11-14 400m Individual Medley featuring Matthew Garrity. Suitably recovered from his relay swims this morning, Matthew was ready to go. Seeded 5th for

this race there was high expectations for Matthew and he didn’t disappoint. A great start in the Butterfly leg set Matthew up well for the rest of the race, finishing with an improvement of 2:65 on his Personal Best, in a time of 5:07:85 which was 4th position overall.

Coach Kyara stated “swimmers are doing great to keep up such a high level of performance so far into the event, this shows off how much preparation they have done in the lead up to the competition”. With Session 11 coming to a close there has been some great performances from the Inverclyde swimmers so far. It would also appear that the support team are also performing well and having checked out the competition they have decided that they are the best looking coaches there!

Session 12 - Day 4 Finals First finalist of Day 4 was Aimee Watson swimming in the Girl’s 11-14 100m Butterfly. Having qualified for the final in 6th positon, Aimee was out to replicate the form she had demonstrated in her heat. Aimee knew that a quick start was essential and set off at a blistering pace giving her a time of 31:75 for the first 50m. A sharp turn and she was straight back into her rhythm powering back up the pool. With the 2 favourites out in front, Aimee was working hard to stay in the chasing group, pushing all the way to the wall Aimee manged to secure 3rd place and Bronze Medal with a new Personal Best of 1:07:81. A great end to a successful day’s swimming for Aimee and the rest of the Inverclyde swimmers.
