POSITION SUMMARY The Volunteer Manager is charged with the development of a broad base of community volunteers, who actively support the Community Food Bank’s mission of creating a hunger-free Central Valley. This individual will directly manage volunteers, and will provide guidance, support, resources and tools to Community Food Bank staff who utilize volunteers. The Volunteer Manager is responsible for planning, selecting, training, and supervising the volunteers of Community Food Bank. The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position. It is not all‐inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and, in addition, management as appropriate may modify this job description. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Manage and develop the volunteer program. a. Plan the volunteer program including developing and implementing the goals and objectives for the program. b. Assess the need for volunteers across all functional areas. c. Conduct ongoing evaluation of the program and implement improvements as necessary. d. Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures which guide the volunteer program. e. Develop and administer forms and records to document the volunteer activities. f. Identify volunteer assignments that provide meaningful work for volunteers and write the volunteer position descriptions in consultation with staff as appropriate. g. Develop and implement a volunteer appreciation plan annually that includes a yearly volunteer appreciation event to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization. h. Develop and execute volunteer management training to staff to work effectively with volunteers. i. Develop and implement onboarding to orient volunteers and increase their understanding of the organization, its services and the roles and responsibilities of volunteers. Ensure that volunteers are provided appropriate training to be successful in their positions and receive the appropriate level of supervision. j. Develop and implement protocols for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skill, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organization. k. Provide management support to the Volunteer Coordinator. l. Ensure that Community Food Bank maintains the national Service Enterprise Initiative Certification, monitoring and evaluating needs of the Community Food Bank’s volunteer program to best practices and standards. Provide SEI training and guidance to all departments for implementation of best practices as defined by SEI. m. Ensure that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

2. Create, develop, evaluate and promote a volunteer utilization program from a diverse pool of active volunteers from the community, including but not limited to: individuals, faith-based groups, corporate groups, civic groups, academic interns, other skill based volunteers and governmental agency referrals. a. Recruit, cultivate, train, appreciate and evaluate volunteers to ensure that Community Food Bank is a volunteer site of choice in the community. b. Seek out and attend community engagement opportunities in order to increase visibility of Community Food Bank and provide relevant information on hunger-related issues and volunteer opportunities. c. Develop opportunities for current, one time volunteers to transition into recurring volunteers utilizing their skills and talents. d. Develop and maintain a process, working with key development and operations staff to identify volunteers with the capacity to also become donors of funds, food, or other services beneficial to the organization. e. Create internal and external materials related to the volunteer services onboarding and supervision processes. f. Coordinate with Corporate Relations Manager to develop and maintain corporate volunteer relationships, and provide relevant information for the corporate volunteer recognition program. 3. Engage in volunteer management best practices. a. Maintain awareness of volunteer management best practices and trends at the regional, state and national level. b. Assist the Programs, Operations, and Development departments to develop and implement effective volunteer management services. c. Work closely with Corporate Relations Manager to ensure consistent experience for corporate volunteer groups. d. Coordinate cross departmentally to identify opportunities for the utilization of skill based volunteers. e. Work closely with Operations management to ensure that the volunteer need is being met in order to accomplish daily work requirements, as well as any additional special projects needed. f. Provide recommendations for volunteer capacity growth in alignment with Community Food Bank’s strategic plan. g. Engage in resource development by actively seeking out potential resources in the community. h. Represent and advocate for the organization in the community and at the regional level. i. Engage in organization capacity-building activities. j. Attend staff meetings. k. Adhere to Feeding America and Community Food Bank guidelines (e.g. food safety). l. Assist with other agency departments and activities as needed (e.g. events). 4. Provide excellent customer service to all Community Food Bank customers, including CFB clients, staff, donors, logistics personnel, agency personnel, volunteers, board members, and the general public. a. Engage in the following tasks or behaviors that represent excellent customer service: timely responses, punctuality and attendance, treating others with respect, distributing quality product, being knowledgeable and providing accurate information, and using appropriate nonverbal and verbal communication. b. Assume the functions and duties of direct reports as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, plus one to two years of work experience in volunteer coordination ore related non-profit work. 2. Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) and work well with a variety of stakeholders from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. 3. Ability to generate enthusiasm and interest from others for working on food bank programs. 4. Ability to adapt to quickly changing business environment, including learning and applying new training and knowledge. 5. Demonstrated ability to problem solve, analyze data, make good decisions, attend to details, and manage projects. 6. Experienced in the use of appropriate computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite. 7. Must have valid CA driver’s license with good driving record. 8. Must be insurable by CFB company vehicle insurance provider. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job. This position is located at a warehousing/distribution facility. With warehouse and truck traffic in the facility and grounds, a few steps to walk up into the facility and product stacked and stored throughout, this position requires someone who is mobile and who can watch for traffic and normal hazards of a warehouse environment. While performing the job duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and/or reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to use a computer to track detailed data, write reports and receive information; must be able to communicate by phone and in person; must be able to drive to and from meetings, events, and to run errands.
