In autumn 2014 changes in the way we support children and young people with a special educational needs and disabilities were made. These changes have an official name - the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEN&D) reforms. They were introduced as part of a law called the Children and Families Act 2014. What are these changes for? The changes put children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and their families, at the heart of all that we do. They aim to help children and young people to reach their potential and prepare them for adulthood.

Somerset County Council’s SEN&D Training and Support Team can help you understand the changes. We offer: • A half termly newsletter with news, training, events and useful resources

Need support? The Somerset SENDIAS service provides confidential, impartial information, advice and support for parent carers and young people. It offers: • A website and leaflets

• Training for education, health and social care professionals on the SEN&D reforms • Talks about the reforms for your support group, parent carers, team meeting, event, or conference • Young People’s Champions to represent the voice of children and young people with SEN&D through the Young People’s Forum.
