LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER Department of Biological Sciences FACULTY OF SCIENCE

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cape Town is seeking to appoint a marine biologist to its academic staff, at the level of Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer. The appointee should be able to teach across a range of marine topics at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to supervise postgraduate student projects. We invite applications from suitably qualified people for appointment early in 2018. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses and to develop her/his own marine research programme with appropriate training and supervision of postgraduate students. Expertise in nearshore ecology or aquaculture would be advantageous as this would complement and extend existing strengths in the department. Minimum requirements: For appointment at Lecturer level: • A Ph.D. in Marine Botany, Marine Zoology or a related field is required • Evidence of publication in recognised research journals/ books is required • Experience in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision is desirable • Evidence of obtaining funds to support independent research is desirable For appointment at Senior Lecturer level: • A Ph.D. in Marine Botany, Marine Zoology or a related field is required • A track record of publication in recognised research journals/ books is required • Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses is required • A track record of successful postgraduate supervision is required • Evidence of obtaining funds to support independent research is required The annual remuneration package for 2017, including benefits: Lecturer: R592 450 Senior Lecturer: R728 440 For further information regarding this position, contact Professor Muthama Muasya – Head of Department ([email protected]) To apply, please e-mail [email protected]: -
