We think. We design. We create. We reflect.
 We are #cwthinkers

Sept. 9, 2016

Dear CW Families,

It is hard for me to even put into words the sense of pride and admiration that I feel for our students and staff. Walking into 6th grade classrooms, I have already seen our students using the language of thinking…something we value and work so hard on here at CW. I have seen our 6th grade students start the year as LEADERS wanting to make sure our new 5th grade students felt good about starting their first year as part of our CW FAMILY. To our families of 5th graders…I have seen your children start on Tuesday with nervousness and excitement about CW to already demonstrating their ability to be LEADERS here at CW. I can’t begin to say enough about how proud you should be of your children. I certainly am and can’t wait to see the places they will go this year with their thinking! David

CW News

• PTO and Accelerated Reader: Our PTO is a huge reason why we are able

to do so many things and provide opportunities for our students. For example, the PTO purchased iPads for every teacher to use in the classroom, paid for every student to have our IXL online math program, and purchased MobyMax online curriculum program for the entire school. Many families are familiar with AR, the program that supports our culture of reading and Millionaire reading program. Due to budget reductions, FHPS no longer was able to fund this vital program. However, our PTO has stepped up and agreed to fund it! Every child at CW uses AR and it means so much that PTO funded this! If you have not returned your donation form, please consider doing so! Thanks again to all of our families! • Camp Roger: This field trip is now a 5th grade field trip during the week of Sept. 26th! The annual Greenfield Village/Henry Ford field trip will take place in the spring for 5th grade. Please get your forms in that were in your opening day packet! • Camp Henry: For the first time in CW’s history, we are excited to have an overnight camp experience! The camp will be for 2 nights and 3 days at Camp Henry. We will be needing parents to volunteer to chaperone and stay the night with our students! Look for more detailed information next week. For planning purposes, the cost of the camp will be $110 and will include all meals and transportation. We will work with all families to ensure no student is denied the opportunity for financial reasons.

Visible Thinking at CW Our culture at CW is directed towards helping to make the thinking of our students visible. We emphasize and prioritize a student’s thinking rather than their final answer. By doing so, we believe we are helping students become critical thinkers who can think about problems and situation through a variety of lenses. As a staff, we use thinking routines as part of culture of thinking. I would encourage you to ask your child about their thinking at CW during their 1st week! 1st Week Assembly We had a great time at our assembly at the end of the day on Friday. Students met all of our staff and were able to hear from two 6th grade CW Thinkers about making this year great!
