September 2016 ENGLISH LEARNER PROGRAMS/COMPLIANCE All schools must closely monitor all of the required activities and timelines, and should have conducted their CELDT training for certificated staff. NEW: The CELDT Campaign Toolkit is now available on the MMED website. The toolkit provides various resources such as instructional guides, sample parent letters, and student goal sheets, to support principals in communicating the importance of the CELDT with parents, students, and staff. To directly access the toolkit, go to: http://bit.ly/toolkitCELDT (SSO login required). For details, refer to Interoffice Correspondence, dated August 29, 2016, subject: “CELDT Campaign Toolkit”. Due by September 14, 2016: • Initial CELDT need to be administered and scored. • Initial Notification for Parents of English Learners must be sent. • Initial Language Classification and Master Plan Program need to be entered in MiSiS. Due by September 16, 2016: • LAT/SSPT recommendation form for each student identified as potentially eligible to reclassify. Send forms to: Debra Hirsch, EL Programs Coordinator, LD Northwest. Follow REF-3661.3 (elementary) and MEM-6046.4 (secondary) for correct placement of English Learners.



EL Designee Professional Development meetings: o September 7, 2016 (elementary) at Northridge MS (MPR) from 8 AM - 11 AM. o September 9, 2016 (secondary) at Northridge MS (MPR) from 8 AM – 11 AM. Substitute vouchers will be provided if the EL Designee is a register carrying teacher. Every school is expected to send their designee to our monthly PD so they can learn the instruction and compliance information to be brought back to the school site and shared to support various district EL initiatives, including this year’s goal of 20% or higher reclassification rate.

Three-day Master Plan Institute (MPI) Make-up Professional Development will be held on September 16, 23, and 30th at LDNW from 8:00 AM -3:00 PM. All EL designees must upload their MPI Certificate of Completion in OLAS from the June, July, or September (make-up) Institute.
