Rubrics The Association of American Colleges and Universities has released a set of VALUE rubrics available for institutional-level instructor use. If you see any rubrics you may want to utilize within your Blackboard shell, email the Distance Education office and we will import these into your course(s).

Distance Education will be hosting a Teaching with Technology session on September 16th from 1-2:30pm. If you’re unable to attend the training, we will be making the information available following the session. If interested, contact our office or watch your inbox for more information.

Discussion Board Navigation Blackboard has added a new feature to make navigating discussion board forums more convenient! Users can now navigate from post to post with the click of a button. You will now find navigation arrows in the upper right hand side of the discussion thread page, which will allow users to move from one post directly to the next. No more need to go back out into the forum just to click on the next thread!

Social We started utilizing social tools in Blackboard a little over 2 weeks ago. We have since had almost 250 users (students, faculty, and staff) activate their accounts! Review the tutorial and consider opting in to better connect yourself with your PSC community.

Convocation was held on the Peru campus on Tuesday, August 23rd for more than 250 incoming freshman. For the whole story, view the news release here.

Homecoming will be held October 1st. Anyone in the area is invited to come join in on all of the festivities and help cheer on the Bobcats! This year’s theme is Las Vegas Bobcat Life. Peru State College has a new spirit shop. If you’re not on campus, check out The Cat Cave on their website or Facebook page.

September 2016 Sunday

The Bobcat Life App at Peru State College is our student engagement app that helps us connect with our students and promote opportunities to learn about and get involved with the many opportunities or resources at the College. In our initial roll out phase students, can view the event calendar, add events to their personal itinerary, receive personal notifications and reminders, stay up-to-date with College news feeds, and even compete in social activities against their peers for prizes. During Welcome Week activities, which were all scheduled and described through the Bobcat Life App, over 250 students downloaded the app and engaged in 2345 sessions for an average of 10 minutes per session. This contributed to significantly higher rates of participation throughout all the many activities of Welcome Week.

Education: Master of Business Administration Master of Science in Organizational Management Bachelor of Science in Political Science

How long have you been with PSC? I have been an adjunct instructor with Peru State College for about a year. Educational background Creighton University, Omaha NE-Master of Business Administration Peru State College, Peru NE-Master of Science, Organizational Management University of Nebraska at Omaha, Omaha NE-Bachelor of Science, Political Science What is your teaching style? In a word, applicable. I try to make sure that every topic is taught in the light of current state business applicability. I tend to reduce focus from topics that have limited real world relevance. Teaching tips and tricks you would like to share Be sure that you incorporate real world experience with the topic you are teaching. Applicability can be found in many ways; your own experiences, shared student experiences, and field trips (Gemba!). Just be sure to be relevant with real world examples. Theories are pointless if they cannot be applied. Also, you have to genuinely care about student success. More about Andrew... I am currently a Project Manager with Mutual of Omaha. My existing project is a redesign of all of our 401K administrative software. I have only been at Mutual of Omaha for a couple of months. Prior to my work with Mutual of Omaha, I was a Process Improvement Consultant and Project Manager for Lincoln Financial Group. Before joining Lincoln Financial Group, I spent the better part of a decade at Fidelity and Guaranty Life. My roles with Fidelity and Guaranty Life included; Client Service Manager-Claims, Sr. Business Analyst, and Sr. Claims Examiner. I am also an adjunct professor for Midland University’s MBA program and Southern New Hampshire University. I have earned several certifications; PMP, FLMI, and Six Sigma-Green Belt. I successfully climbed Mount Everest in 2014…just kidding. I am a pretty regular guy from small town Beemer, Nebraska. I have lived in the Omaha area for the better part of the last 10 years.
