SERBIA DAILY UPDATE 31 March 2016 STATISTICS AND HIGHLIGHTS   

UNHCR is aware of 14 irregular arrivals: 13 from fYR Macedonia and one from Bulgaria. The number of refugees in Serbia continues dropping. As a result of the de-facto closure of the Balkan route smuggling routes into/through Hungary have been re-activated. Some 60 refugees were observed departing towards North Serbia by taxi from Sid and some 20 from Adasevci, including many women and children. 6 men expressed intent to seek asylum, bringing the total in March 2016 to 699 (statistics courtesy of the Ministry of Interior). SOUTH 577 refugees were hosted in the Reception Centre (RC) in Presevo. Inside the RC hot meals were served by REMAR, Red Cross, Caritas and Humedica, while Border Free Association provided food outside the RC. UNHCR/SPDE distributed 1,290 water bottles, four UNHCR blankets, ten pairs of socks, 336 WFP HEBs. Divac Foundation distributed other clothes and food to refugees. The UNICEF/DRC/CSW child friendly space hosted 22 children and 22 women. The Health Clinic assisted 51 refugees inside the RC while Natan/Humedica clinic had 41 patients. EAST Sigma Plus assisted one Pakistani who arrived in Dimitrovgrad. Red Cross gave him food and water. BELGRADE Around 60 refugees and asylum seekers, mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Morocco were assisted by UNHCR partners in Belgrade. Some 20 spent the night in parks near the bus and train stations. The Asylum Info Center (AIC) was approached by 13 refugees/migrants who arrived recently from fYR Macedonia: three undocumented Syrian men, six undocumented individuals of mixed nationalities (4 Afghans, 1 Palestinian, 1 Pakistani); and four Syrians, with Greek registration documents. They were provided medical assistance as needed and counselled on their right to seek asylum in Serbia. AIC also assisted three refugees from Afghanistan to file their intent to seek asylum in Serbia. NORTH Some 40 refugees, including 15 children, were observed arriving in Subotica. They proceeded to Palic, presumably planning to cross into Hungary at night.

SERBIA DAILY UPDATE 31 March 2016 WEST The number of refugees sheltered in the three Refugee Aid Points (RAP) in the West dropped to 455. Many refugees expressed frustration with their current situation and accommodation standards. Mercy Corps delivered some kitchen equipment to the Adasevci motel to allow refugees themselves to prepare adequate warm meals. BCM/Sid Health Centre treated 21 refugee while UNICEF/WV/CSW child friendly space hosted 23 children and 13 women. 176 refugees were hosted in Principovac RAP.
