Residual Solvents Analysis Residual solvents in pharmaceuticals are defined as organic volatile chemicals that are consumed or produced in the manufacture of drug products that are not completely removed by practical manufacturing techniques. The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specifies the gas chromatographic (GC) conditions for the analysis of these organic volatile impurities. The SHS-40 and Bruker GC combine to provide excellent results for this method. Residual Solvent Peak Analysis

Biodiesel – Methanol Analysis In order for biodiesel to be used as a motor fuel or blended with petroleum diesel, it must conform to standard EN-14110 to determine methanol content. Utilization of the Bruker SHS-40 and GC combination, allows for the application of this method to biodiesel samples. The system generates excellent results that confirm that the HS-GC system is well suited for the determination of methanol content in biodiesel according to specifications outlined in EN-14110. Transformer Oil Gas Analysis Insulating fluids, generally mineral oils, are often used in electrical transformers. Occasionally, localized or general heating of the oil occurs and decomposition products are formed. If the concentration of these gases reaches a critical point, the chances of catastrophic transformer failure are high. The ASTM D 3612 method 1 (Part B) describes in detail an HS-GC method for the measurement of these gases. The analysis of dissolved gases in transformer oil according to ASTM D3612, method B, can be performed easily and effectively with the Bruker TOGA and SHS-40 headspace sampler. Using a Bruker system results in full separation of all components of interest with easy and reliable quantitation.

Simple and Productive Integration with GC-MS

Headspace with Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (HS-GC-MS) is an extremely powerful technique to characterize and measure VOC’s. Utilizing this technique is ideal for the analysis and quantitation of known and well characterised components. Taking advantage of the potent combination of analytical platforms couldn’t be easier with the Bruker SHS-40. Ready made for integration with the Bruker 400 Series GC and powerful SCION Series GC-MS platforms, the SHS-40 fits in perfectly with these companion systems to create the ultimate platform for VOC analysis.
