Somalia: Humanitarian Snapshot (as of 3 August 2017) Severe drought is expected to deepen until the start of the Deyr rainy season in October. The food security and nutrition situation is not expected to improve in some parts of Somalia through the end of 2017, according to FAO-FSNAU post-Gu preliminary results. Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) prevalence is ‘Critical’ at above 15 per cent in 9 out of 12 Internally Displaced People settlements surveyed by FSNAU. More than 3 million people are being reached each month with humanitarian assistance and protection.

Humanitarians are reaching over 3 million people monthly with life-saving assistance and livelihoods support. However, some clusters such as Food Security, Health and WASH have scaled back response due to inadequate funding. For example WASH activities have slowed down for the second consecutive month, while pipeline breaks in food security and nutrition have been projected.
