CodeHorizon - An App Finding Hackathons Recruiting top coders today is a challenge because the reality is that they are in higher demand than ever. Some organizations today have implemented a long term pipelining strategy using a form of gamification geared toward programmers; hackathons. A hackathon is a timed competition with a subset of coding challenges. These challenges could range from solving problem statements to creating code to perform a specific action. All challenges and contests have some sort of guideline such as a specific language use like SQL, C++ or JavaScript, as well as a time limit, or limit on memory management. The CodeHorizon App, which is availabe for both iOS® and Android® searches top coder contest websites in real-time to locate the most recent contents that are either in-progress or up and coming. This app feeds content from a wide variety of sites including CodeChef, CodeForces, HackerEarth, HackerRank and Topcoder®.

Snapchat® It has been four years since Snapchat® first launched. An app that initially sparked fears and concerns about user interaction has quickly become one of Silicon Valley’s most valuable startups. Built on the premise that data doesn’t need to stick around forever, an individual’s snaps have a limited lifespan. This type of “in the moment” disposable sharing has captured the teen and young adult market with more than 100 million users. Users can send photos and videos to their friends. They can turn a compilation of their snaps into stories. Each snap in a story is viewable for 24 hours and can be customized to individual friends, a group of people or seen publicly, meaning anyone who follows that user can view their story. Snapchat’s recent update has introduced “lenses” where users can add artwork such as halos and cartoon emoji’s to their pictures and videos. While this may sound strange to someone unfamiliar with the app it is a huge hit among users.

Opportunities for all aspects of cybersecurity / information assurance including Embedded Engineers, CNO Engineers and Analysts, Software and Application Developers, Help Desk, Trainers, Cyber Exercise Planners and more. We’ll be offering complementary professional Resume Reviews during the job fair. For more info and to preregister visit: http://clearedjobs. net/job-fair/fair/36/. This event is for professionals with cybersecurity or information security experience, and college-level cyber students only please. Hotel Address: Cyber Only - Baltimore Convention Center 1 West Pratt Street Baltimore, Maryland

The popularity of Snapchat has already gained the attention of some major brands. What’s also on the radar for companies is tapping into Snapchat’s platform for recruiting. Goldman Sachs recently launched a recruiting campaign targeting college students for internship opportunities. While many recruiters and companies want to use Snapchat for recruiting it can be difficult since the platform is somewhat closed and can be tricky. For example, users must know the Snapchat username of another user or see and scan the QR code of the user in order to follow them.

Snapchat...continued For a wider audience Snapchat offers its Discovery feature and Live Stories feature. Currently there are only 15 partners included in Snapchat’s Discovery section. Live Stories is another popular feature. These are a stream of user submitted snaps at a one particular event or in a specific location. It allows for multiple users to share their own perspective and points of view from that event. It is available to all users who have their location settings turned on and are at the same event location. Part of the Live Stories feature includes Campus Stories, which is the feature Goldman Sachs used for its recruiting campaign in September. Ten second videos were included in Campus Stories where people who were in and around the campus within the last 24 hours could view the Campus Story; with the Goldman Sachs promotion it included user generated content. The rise in Snapchat’s popularity should be considered when it comes to recruitment marketing and branding. The current candidate market calls for creative approaches to advertising for recruiting interns and employees. Snapchat has a large audience. It’s fun. It’s exciting. It’s where the people are. Consider it.

AIRS Polls September When working with a hiring manager, which of the following typically requires the most discussion? Working and communicating with hiring managers has been a hot topic for many years among recruiters and sourcers. September’s AIRS Poll focused on this topic and in particular where recruiters are spending a majority of their time working with hiring managers. The results show that “evaluating candidate profiles” is at the top of the list with “timeliness to review candidates” coming in second, followed by “time to fill” and “interview techniques.” Clearly recruiters are spending a lot of time talking to hiring managers about candidates – which is as it should be!
