oogle® News has always offered the option of saving searches in some manner, and one of its easiest to use features is a fantastic resource for savvy recruiters. The “Personalize your news” option allows recruiters to create targeted search sections that can be added to their news homepage. These customized search sections allow users to target industries, companies, geographic locations and specific position titles.

This page also offers users pre-customized news search options that have been created by others, such as Mobile Technology, Space, and US Equity Markets just to name a few. Click on the button “Create a custom search section” to further refine and target a news search.

Personalized Google® News...continued This example is focused on finding news articles from the US that relate to gold mining companies. This feature also allows news searches to target other country “editions” and to refine the search to news sources from specific locations, including specific states.

Once a custom search section has been created, it will show up on the user’s Google® News homepage. That way any reference to the targeted companies can be seen easily in the newsfeed.

Another option for customizing a search section at Google® News, it to use the “Advanced news search” option from the main search box.

Personalized Google® News...continued This search option can provide recruiters and sourcers with an updated stream of potential candidate names referenced in news articles from all over the world or from one specific city. This example is targeting Aerospace Engineers in Virginia mentioned in news articles within the last month. Once created, this search will also be available on a user’s News homepage. By simply clicking on the section, all related articles will be shown and potential candidates

The Contacts section experienced an upgrade on LinkedIn’s website and through its new iPhone® application. Now users can sync contact information from more sources including CardMunch, Evernote® and Triplt® and even a user’s iPhone contacts. Additionally, users will no longer have to rely on constantly importing contacts from email accounts as they can now integrate contacts as live links, so when contact information changes, that information will automatically change on LinkedIn. The upgraded Contacts section aims to help users better manage and recollect details on their LinkedIn contacts. This integration will help recruiters store information on candidates such as phone numbers, email addresses, details on how recruiters first met the candidate, reminders, and other notes in which users can add. In return, this will also help increase the amount of time users normally spend on LinkedIn. The new iPhone application allows users to connect by a number of filters: tags, companies, titles, locations and sources (such as where they contacts have been added). Contacts can also be organized alphabetically, by recent conversation or even newly added. Tags can also be added and edited at any time on each connection’s profile. This will allow users to better organize their network by quickly locating a member by the tag they have created.

As the popularity for smartphones continues to increase, many companies are starting to make advancements to stay current with the trends in human behavior. One of the latest innovations came at the end of April with LinkedIn® renovating its Contacts section, making it more compatible with mobile devices. Mobile has been a big success for LinkedIn after the company reported an average of 27 percent of unique visiting members came through mobile apps in the fourth quarter of 2012, versus just 15 percent a year ago.

LinkedIn® Organizes Contacts; Launches New iPhone® App...continued Since the iPhone® application syncs directly with a user’s phone and also their LinkedIn account, each text, phone call, email and message through LinkedIn can be sorted through the recent conversation section. This will help users locate professional information on their contacts at ease. The iPhone application also contains a “To Do” section which highlights connections with new job titles and even daily birthdays, making it easier for recruiters to stay more engaged with their current LinkedIn network.

The Contact Info section has also been expanded to include contact information that has been synced from a user’s iPhone. A Recruiters Dream - Every Org Chart for Every Company Well, this dream may not be as far off as one would guess. A website called The Official Board (www. theofficialboard.com) is trying to make this a reality. Currently, this site maintains 40,000+ (over 12,000 from the USA) organizational charts from companies making over $100M in revenue. It is likely to evolve/expand in the future. For each company, a recruiter can view valuable company information including, the company website, the “mother” company, the country of registration, and the industry along with people’s names and titles associated with those companies. For each company org chart, it displays 3 reporting levels: the President and Board of Directors, the direct reports of the President and their direct reports. The detailed information includes the first and last names, the business email address, the business title and the reporting line. Note: this information can also be supplemented beyond the current information, with information such as the history of their updates, their professional phone numbers and some additional references collected form the Internet. There are 3 levels of members:

By choosing the NetWorker option, one can test out the site for free. This option allows members to view, search, update company and executive information, and to schedule up to 20 email alerts on selected companies. The member can view 15 detailed org charts for free. In addition, each time the member adds a relevant contact, the member can then view 10 additional org charts. Data Integrity - Their web engines scrutinize over 500,000 reliable sources 24/7, or one of their 300,000 members spots an executive move. Each move is analyzed, moderated by industry experts, and then verified by email with that executive. The site maintains data integrity by only posting information from the user community that has been validated. Since 70% of executives leave within 2 years, it is valuable to have real time org charts in a recruiter’s arsenal. In the last 10 weeks, 80,956 executive moves have been recorded.
