Stingrays Put It All On The Line In Game 7 Wednesday Night The South Carolina Stingrays and Manchester Monarchs will need a Game 7 Wednesday night at the SNHU Arena to decide the Eastern Conference Finals. The Monarchs forced the final game with a 5-1 decision on Monday night in Game 6. The Rays dropped the first two games of the series with one-goal losses of 2-1 and 4-3 before winning three straight in Games 3-5. South Carolina hosted the first three games of the series, while Manchester is home for the fourth straight contest Wednesday. The RAYS TEAM LEADERS Rays advanced to the third round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs by winning Postseason the South Divison with series victories over Florida and Greenville. SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS HOCKEY Scouting The Monarchs Manchester finished the regular season with an overall record of 37-24-7-4 and 85 points, which was fourth-best in the ECHL’s North Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference. Forward Matt Leitner led the team with 53 points (14 goals, 39 assists) in 51 games. Joe Diamond was tops among skaters with 23 goals and second in points with 50 in as many games. Forwards Daniel Doremus (49 points) and Quentin Shore (43 points) were not far behind, each playing in 56 games. Defenseman Teddy Doherty led the blueliners in scoring with 36 points (eight goals, 28 assists). Goaltender Sam Brittain was the team’s mainstay in net, playing in 36 games with a record of 20-9-4, a goals against of 3.28 and a save percentage at 0.896. Leitner also leads the team in playoff scoring with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists, while Shore has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) and Daniel Ciampini has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists). Brittain has played every minute of the playoffs for his team with a GAA of 2.24, a save percentage at 0.928 and one shutout. All-Time History vs. Manchester The Stingrays and Monarchs had never met before the 2016-17 regular season. During five contests in the month of February, South Carolina had a slim advantage with a record of 3-2. The first three meetings came at the beginning of the month in Manchester, while the Monarchs returned to finish the season series with two games in North Charleston Feb. 17-18. The Eastern Conference Finals series is also the first time the two squads have met up in the playoffs. Milner Saving His Best For The Postseason Goaltender Parker Milner has been great in between the pipes for South Carolina during the postseason. While starting in all of the Rays’ 17 playoff games, Milner has a goals against average of 2.12, a save percentage at 0.922, three shutouts and 11 wins. The netminder is high among the league leaders in all categories during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Milner has done his best work at home, allowing just 13 total goals during nine contests in North Charleston for a GAA of 1.44 to go along with a save percentage at 0.950. Scoring First Leading To Success The Stingrays are 7-0 when scoring the first goal during their postseason run. South Carolina has allowed the first strike in 10 of their playoff contests and have still managed to come from behind and win four of those games. Two of the team’s three wins in the Eastern Conference Finals have been in come-from-behind fashion. Offense Coming From The Blue Line The Stingrays defensemen have played a big offensive role in the Eastern Conference Finals series with Manchester. Four of the team’s blueliners have scored goals in the series, including Joey Leach, Cody Corbett, Max Nicastro and Marcus Perrier. Corbett has also accounted for three assists and both Nicastro and Leach have two assists apiece while Perrier has one helper of his own.

SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS HOCKEY Stingrays Recent Game 7 History Wednesday night’s Game 7 will be nothing new for South Carolina as they have played in winner take all games many times over the past few seasons. In 2016 the Rays lost to Wheeling 5-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals after defeating Adirondack 3-2 in a Game 7 the previous round. The previous year in 2015 SC had three Game 7’s, defeating Reading 3-2 in round one before knocking off Toledo 1-0 in 3OT to advance to the Kelly Cup Finals where they eventually lost their final Game 7 to Allen by a score of 6-1. The Stingrays won their last Kelly Cup in 2009 with a 4-2 victory in Game 7 on the road in Alaska. Leaders Against Manchester Rob Flick led all Stingrays skaters during the five regular season contests against the Monarchs in the month of February, scoring an average of two points per game for a total of 10 (five goals, five assists). Right behind Flick was Domenic Monardo, who also became a major offensive factor with eight points on two goals and six assists during the five games. Steven McParland (three goals, one assist), Marcus Perrier (two goals, two assists) and John Parker (two goals, two assists) each had four points against Manchester. Flick Among Top Playoff Performers Forward Rob Flick has been one of the top offensive players in the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs and is currently tied for fourth among all skaters in postseason scoring with 18 points. The London, Ont. native’s 10 goals and 61 shots on net are also second in the ECHL, while his three game-winning goals rank third. The sixth-year forward was also the top performer for SC during the regular season with 63 points (31 goals. 32 assists) in 60 games.

Third Period Comeback Earns Rays Game 5 Victory Three tallies in the third period of Game 5 gave the South Carolina Stingrays their third consecutive win and a 3-2 series lead in the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday night at the SNHU Arena by a score of 3-1. Steven McParland and Olivier Archambault both had a goal and an assist in the final period, while Kelly Zajac added an insurance marker and Parker Milner made 19 saves in the victory. South Carolina owned the third, holding the Monarchs to just three shots in the final 20 minutes.

Stingrays Even Series With 2-1 Win In Game 4 The South Carolina Stingrays held the Manchester Monarchs power play to 0-for-7 and got enough offense to win Game 4 and even the Eastern Conference Finals series at 2-2 with a 2-1 win Friday night at SNHU Arena. Andrew Cherniwchan and Rob Flick scored for South Carolina while goaltender Parker Milner made 33 saves to earn his 10th victory in between the pipes for the Stingrays.
