Southwest Airlines announces new daily CMH-DCA service beginning April 2015 COLUMBUS — Travelers will soon have even greater access to the nation’s capital from Ohio’s capital with Southwest Airlines’ announcement of daily service between Port Columbus International Airport (CMH) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) beginning April 8, 2015. "This is an excellent enhancement to our air service offerings from Port Columbus,” said Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “I thank and commend Southwest Airlines for their vision to expand service to include Washington D.C.” Franklin County Board of Commissioners President Marilyn Brown added, “We are thrilled Southwest will be adding service to this critical business, government and leisure market for our region." The latest data from the U.S. Department of Transportation shows that 400 passengers travel daily each way between Port Columbus and the Washington D.C. region, an area that has long been a priority market for many of the region’s top businesses and organizations. DCA is the airport closest to the heart of Washington D.C., and links directly to the region’s Metrorail system to provide easy access for business and leisure travelers. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enforces a “slot rule” for DCA that limits the number of landings and takeoffs per hour in order to reduce congestion. “Southwest choosing Port Columbus to receive service via one of the airline’s limited DCA slots is a big compliment to our community and our airport, and also recognizes the overall growth our region is experiencing,” said Elaine Roberts, A.A.E., President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, which operates Port Columbus. “On behalf of the Port Columbus travelers we thank Southwest Airlines for their ongoing commitment to and investment in Columbus.” Southwest started Port Columbus service in 1992, and has since grown to be the airport’s largest carrier of passengers. The airline operates up to 30 daily departures to 13 cities including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Nashville, Orlando, Phoenix, St. Louis, Tampa, and now Washington D.C. — More —
