CASA DE ESPERANZA

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION MISSION Casa de Esperanza de los Niños – the House of Hope for Children – is a safe place for children in crisis due to abuse, neglect or the effects of HIV. Casa de Esperanza provides residential care, and coordinates medical and psychological services according to the needs of each child.

HISTORY Casa de Esperanza has been keeping children safe in the greater Houston area since 1982. Responding to needs in the community, Casa de Esperanza has been a leader in developing new programs to address unmet needs. Casa de Esperanza charges no fees for services, receives no government support and is funded only through the dedicated support of many partners and friends throughout the greater Houston area.

GOAL The goal of our services is to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect, one family at a time. Casa de Esperanza provides comprehensive, long-term, trauma-informed services focused on providing voluntary residential care for children in crisis situations, returning physically and emotionally healthier children to stabilized homes where caregivers can safely provide daily care, assisting families to establish and maintain a stable home where their children can thrive, and assisting children to develop to their highest potential.

Casa de Esperanza charges no fees for any of our services, does not receive government funding, and is not a United Way agency. UNIQUENESS Casa de Esperanza is the only agency in the greater Houston area providing: • 24-hour emergency placement and voluntary residential care for at-risk infants and young children (newborn to 6 years old) without charge; • Residential care for young children with medical and/or behavioral problems without charge. • Specialized residential care for young children exposed to HIV/AIDS; • All services without charge to the family or placing agency; • Follow-up to ensure safety after a child returns home and a commitment to ongoing services; • Foster parents in the community are volunteers, serving without remuneration.
