PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senior Resource Center for Douglas County Dedicates New Annual Award to Phillip and Phoebe Godwin Lawrence, KS, January 19, 2018. The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County (SRC) is pleased to announce an annual award to recognize senior citizens of Douglas County who, by devoting their time, talents, and expertise to serve the public good, have made significant, demonstrable, and direct contributions to the county’s well-being. The first recipients of the Godwin Community Service Award are Dr. Phillip and Phoebe Godwin, who represent the spirit and purpose of this annual award through their lifetime of active engagement, volunteerism, and selfless acts of service to the community. Phoebe and Phillip raised a family of three children: Gregory, Amy and Andrew (all of whom are impressive and accomplished adults). Phil spent over 43 years caring for the citizens of Douglas County as a physician. He pioneered the department of anesthesia at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and served on the boards of many community organizations promoting better health. Along with raising their family, Phoebe, a Registered Nurse, volunteered with organizations to improve the lives of Douglas County children and adults with behavioral health and learning disabilities and was involved in establishing the original Visiting Nurses Association. The award will be presented to the Godwins on Saturday, January 20, at 2:15 p.m. in conjunction with a celebration of Dr. Godwin’s 90th birthday.
