Ss PETER & PAUL May 27 , 2018

Feast of the Holy Trinity

“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” - Romans 8:16-17 If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn't we work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn't we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time in prayer, our talent in charitable works and our treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way?

One of the things that I have been reflecting on recently

Weekly Reflection

is about who we really are and what are our true intentions. Most of us act differently than we want people to By Matthew Ziarnik see us. I was talking to someone about how they want their grandchildren to see them positively and they want them to make better life choices than they are currently making. But why don’t they take their own advice and change their lives? Although life can be difficult, we must be striving for the person that we truly are at heart. God created us a certain way and we must accept ourselves. We cannot place fake masks on ourselves to make people think about us differently. It is never too late to change our lives, and we will only be happy once we accept who are children of God. Society will never make you happy, only God will. Worldly pleasures such as sex, money, and power, are not intrinsically evil, but when we place them in the center of our lives, we slowly become less and less happy. Humans were made for the infinite God, and the finite world will never make us happy. People will always seek more money, more power, and more sex; however, their hearts will be more and more restless. How is it that a dog can be given food, love, and shelter and be satisfied, while people can have the entire world and still feel no passion and satisfaction? We are made for something greater than the world can offer. The Church has been proclaiming the gospel for 2,000 years now, and they always remind us that Jesus is the center of our lives. They do not do this so that they can receive some financial gain, but they say this because it will truly make each person happy. They want to spread the message which will allow people to become the best versions of themselves. No matter what point we are in our life, we can always turn back to the truth. The Apostles were caught off guard when Jesus came but they still followed them. Although they suffered, their lives were satisfied as they knew that only God could make them happy. Are you ready to truly be happy? Sadly, my internship at this Church will be ending at the end of this month, as I have to go back to school. It has been about ten months that I have been here and I have really grown as a person from my ministry. Many of the homeless and economically disadvantaged people are my friends and I will miss our conversations. Over the next four years I will be studying engineering at Villanova University. Hopefully I was able to give some insight in my work through my writings, and I hope I’ll have the ability to visit while I am in college.
