Paper I: Quantitative Aptitude
Marks to be obtained: 150+
A candidate should be strong in this part and this is a deciding factor to succeed in SSC CGL. Each wrong answer carries 0.50 negative marks. If you have to crack in this part, try to maintain accuracy and attend 75+ questions only. If more than that is also appreciable. This will fetch you 150+ marks. In 100 questions, 50 questions will be from Elementary Advanced Mathematics and 50 from Application problems. If you spend even 1 minute for each question, you can easily attend 100 questions. But that is not the strategy. You should skip those questions which takes more time and attempt Data Interpretation problems in the first, then should go for Elementary Advanced Mathematics problems which can be answered quickly just by substituting values and then go for Simplification problems. This will help you to score nearly 90 - 100 marks. Then try attempting rest of the topics with accuracy to score 50 - 60 marks.
If you can score more than 150, then it is good and you will get the desired department mentioned in your preferences. Tier II Quantitative Aptitude Mark Split up
Paper II: English Language & Comprehension
Marks to be obtained: 150+
If you prepare spotting errors, from our RACE material i.e., Golden Rules for error spotting and from S.P.Bakshi, it is possible for you to score full marks in Error spotting and Sentence Improvement or at least 35 marks in least case. Idioms & Phrases, One Word Substitution is also provided with materials and it is easy to score at least 10 marks. Reading Comprehension has a weight age of 30 marks in which at least 25+ can be scored.
There are certain rules which are easy to follow in Direct/Indirect and Active/Passive Voice which totally covers 47 marks in which 42+ can be scored just by parrot fashion. Cloze test and para jumbled words are bit risky but by attending numerous mock test, we can get an idea and with accuracy maintained from 45 questions, it is possible to score 35+. Finally Fill in the Blanks, Wrongly Spelt Words and Synonyms/Antonyms, totally 14 marks is asked. In that we can attempt at least 8 with accuracy. So totally it adds up to 155+ which is obtained in a very much easy way. Tier II English Language
Note: RACE Institute has done a complete analysis on previous year Question Papers and Results. One advice is that if you are strong in Aptitude try to score more marks i.e., above 175+ so that you could compensate in English paper for a total of 300 marks out of 400 in Tier II and Vice Versa. Anyhow if you score 170+ in either of the papers, it will be helpful for you to score rest of the marks in the other paper. If you score 150+ in both the papers, then there is no need to say anything, “You are Just Welcome to SSC”.
In Tier I, you should be strong in at least three section, i.e., if you attempt the question paper for 200 marks, you should score at least 160. You can keep your difficult section which covers 50 marks aside and could least concentrate on scoring in that section. Even if you attempt 20+ in that difficult section of yours, you could score 140+ which is a much appreciable score when added to your 300 marks scored in Tier II. All the Best
